And if they can do it, I can also have this dream.”Caroline Graham Hansen playing for VfL Wolfsburg in March 2018. Boris Streubel/Getty ImagesGraham Hansen is 29 years of age and the women’s game has transformed during her career. Graham Hansen scored 32 goals in only 40 games and, with an additional 28 assists, she led her team with a total of 60 goal contributions. That is why she is one of seven players from last season’s squad to be shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or Féminin, and Graham Hansen thinks that the number could have been even higher. Barcelona has won the last three Ballon d’Ors Féminin – Alexia Putellas in 2021 and 2022, Aitana Bonmatí in 2023 – but Graham Hansen says they’re not in competition with each other for the award.

A soccer team consisting entirely of transgender men has made its debut in a regional league in Spain, overcoming administrative challenges and prejudice to become the first all-trans squad to achieve federated status in Europe. Spain passed a pioneering trans rights bill last year designed to make it easier to change a person’s legal gender identity. Hugo Martinez, 24, told Reuters he faced abuse when he began transitioning with gender-affirming hormone therapy and was forced to leave the women’s soccer team in which he had played. The experience prompted Martinez to put out a call online for other trans men seeking to play soccer in a safe environment. But for its fans and players, trans men having the right to play their favorite sport on equal terms is far more important than the score.

A Ukrainian drone commander says his unit can use $100 million to carry out 5,000 lethal strikes, per The Atlantic. The big takeaway was that, on average, for each $20,000 spent on his unit, Ukraine could score one kill on Russian forces. According to The Atlantic's writers, the commander's slides said that a drone unit funded with $100 million could stay on the battlefield for a full year, carrying out 5,000 lethal strikes. AdvertisementThe commander is based out of Kharkiv, according to his Telegram channel, which publishes clips of his drones attacking Russian forces and equipment. In February, Ukraine's then-military chief, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, called for a mindset shift away from a reliance on Western aid and instead toward cheap drones.

Harry Kane has never won the Champions League but if Matchday 1 was anything to go by, the England captain is desperate to do so. Follow the Champions League on The AthleticFirst, what happened on Matchday 1? Ligue 1 side Brest took no time to acquaint themselves with the Champions League, beating Austrian champions Sturm Graz 2-1 on their debut in the competition. The 26-year-old USMNT winger has scored in his last two Champions League games and could become the first American to score in three consecutive appearances. It was the first time in the Champions League that three substitutes had all directly contributed to a goal.

If you like your European midweek football this is the week for you, with 54 Champions League, Europa League and Conference League matches being crammed into three nights. The Champions League kicked things off with some of the competition’s favourites beginning to bare their teeth. It was also, incredibly, their 31st defeat from 37 Champions League group stage away games. Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and a first Champions League goal for James McAtee saw City get their first win of this year’s competition. They lost a number of key players in the summer and can’t even play Champions League games at their own home, with the 15,000 capacity Stade Francis-Le Ble not up to Champions League standards (they’re hosting matches at Guingamp’s Stade du Roudourou instead).

CNN —Two mistakes from Italy star Gianluigi Donnarumma proved decisive on Tuesday night as Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. In the 20th minute, Donnarumma left his goal line to attempt to punch clear a cross from Leandro Trossard, but he was beaten to the ball by Havertz, who headed into the empty net. But Arsenal would double its lead in the 35th minute when Saka sent a curling free kick into the box. Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey missed the ball, but so did Donnarumma and the cross found its way into his net. For San Marino, these are some of the greatest results in the nation’s history. San Marino, a tiny microstate within Italy, is home to 33,600. Between 2006 and 2023, San Marino held the unwanted record of suffering the biggest defeat in European Championship qualifying history – a 13-0 drubbing by Germany. Bernd Schneider makes it 13-0, scoring a penalty past San Marino goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini. United fell to a third league defeat in six games on Sunday, losing 3-0 at home against Tottenham amid captain Bruno Fernandes’ red card. There were dramatic results across the Premier League this weekend, as well as a crowd-disrupted Madrid derby in La Liga and a novel way of protesting a refereeing decision by José Mourinho in Turkey. England’s Premier League: United’s woes persistThe pressure on United manager Erik ten Hag has grown after the club’s latest defeat against Tottenham, another humiliation in an underwhelming start to the season. HOUSTON — A former Houston police officer was convicted Wednesday of murder in the deaths of a couple during a 2019 drug raid that revealed systemic corruption problems within the police department’s narcotics unit. A jury found Gerald Goines guilty of two counts of murder in the January 2019 deaths of Dennis Tuttle, 59, and his 58-year-old wife Rhogena Nicholas. Goines looked down and did not visibly react as the verdict was read in a Houston courtroom. Goines’ attorneys argued during the trial that the first to fire at another person was Tuttle and not police officers. The probe into the drug raid also uncovered allegations of systemic corruption.

President Joe Biden welcomed the Gotham Football Club to the White House on Monday, the first National Women’s Soccer League championship team to have the distinction. Biden then welcomed to the stage former U.S. women's national soccer team star Ali Krieger, who played with Gotham until her retirement last year. The two sides met at City’s Etihad Stadium on Sunday with both teams eager to strike first in this year’s title race. Just before half-time, Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard committed a foul before kicking the ball across the pitch, earning a controversial second yellow card. Matt West/ShutterstockAfter being reduced to 10 players, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta adopted a highly defensive shape to try and protect the lead. “I think the win belongs to the players and for our fans,” Fonseca said after the game. A chaotic first half saw visiting Wolfsburg take a 3-2 lead before Piero Hincapié leveled things up shortly after half-time.

CNN —After a long, history-making WNBA season that featured a break for the Paris Olympics, the postseason is finally here. 1 New York Liberty – 1 p.m. It has been on the losing side in the WNBA Finals on five occasions, most recently against the Las Vegas Aces last year. After a spectacular rookie season, Clark will now be tested by the trials and tribulations of the postseason for the first time. Despite winning it all in 2022 and 2023, Las Vegas is certainly not the favorite heading into the postseason and could only manage the fourth seed for the playoffs.

The esteemed group: The Bills, Buccaneers, Chargers, Chiefs, Saints, Seahawks, Steelers, Texans and Vikings. Can Darnold continue his resurgence against a Texans defense that ranks third-stingiest in yards allowed and second in sacks through two games? Saints’ legitimacyIt seemed premature to get excited about the Saints’ 47-10 trouncing of the Panthers in Week 1, given Carolina’s issue. And is a Saints defense that has held opponents to just 14.5 points per game equally as legit? Can Dalton help stop the bleeding, or is this team as bad as it seems regardless of who starts at quarterback?
