A Sacramento Kings win always ends the same way, with 1,000 watts of RGB lasers converging in a purple column. Installed at the Golden 1 Center before the season, the light shines up from the roof and dissipates somewhere past the Northern California stratosphere. The hope is that every Sacramento resident can see it—along with whatever extraterrestrials are passing by, Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé has joked. Less predictable but equally resplendent, for the “Beam Team,” are the scoring displays that occasion the postgame spectacles. “We played pretty good offensively,” first-year Kings coach Mike Brown said in a room-for-improvement tone after his club heaped 137 points atop the Detroit Pistons in a recent victory.
CNN —Phoenix guard Devin Booker scored an astonishing 51 points in just three quarters as the Suns dominated the Chicago Bulls 132-113. In just 31 minutes on the court, the shooting guard shot 20-for-25 from the field and went 6-for-7 from deep, making it one of the most efficient scoring performances in NBA history. “It felt like a double-sized rim out there,” Booker said after the game. In the third, Booker took it to another gear, dropping 26 points to kill the game off – shooting 10-for-11 in the quarter. MVP!” after Booker sunk a three-pointer in the third quarter.
CNN —Luka Doncić scored 35 points, including a clutch three-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining, to give the Dallas Mavericks a 103-101 win over the LA Clippers despite blowing a 25-point lead. “Luka Magic” also had 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals, making every one of his 11 free throws along the way. Up against an injury-hit Clippers team – including Kawhi Leonard who is managing a knock to his knee – the Mavericks took a 15 point first-quarter lead. Mavs fans will be relieved as they narrowly avoided losing their second game of the season after leading by 22 or more. “We’re giving up a lot of big leads, just like we drew it up,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said after the game.
Nov 12 (Reuters) - Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving's team-imposed, minimum five-game suspension for promoting an anti-Semitic documentary will extend to a sixth game, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. The Nets' game on Saturday at the Los Angeles Clippers marked the fifth contest of the suspension imposed on Irving but head coach Jacque Vaughn said in the report he would not be reinstated for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I do know (Irving's) not available (on Sunday)," Vaughn said before Saturday's game, according to the report. Before he posted his apology, the Nets suspended Irving, saying that despite speaking to reporters during two media availabilities, he had refused to disavow anti-Semitism. Irving has since met with National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver, who said he did not believe the Brooklyn Nets guard was anti-Semitic.
In addition to a poor run of results so far this season, the team lost LeBron James through injury during their latest defeat by the LA Clippers on Wednesday. “I didn’t do anything extraneous on the play,” James told reporters after the game. With the team currently stuck on 2-9 for the season, Lakers fans will be praying their starman and leader will be fit to play as soon as possible. Lakers coach Darvin Ham, however, urged James to “do what you need to do, just take care of your body.”“I mean it’s just a lot of adversity,” Ham told reporters after the game, speaking of James’ injury. I thought he had it going really, really well tonight.
CNN —Steph Curry put on a performance for the ages against the Sacramento Kings to give the Golden State Warriors a much needed 116-113 win to end a five-game losing streak. Andrew Wiggins added 25 points and 10 rebounds and Klay Thompson chipped in with 16 to help the Warriors over the line. That pattern would continue, with the Warriors bench being outscored 49-15 by the Kings. By the end of the third quarter, the Warriors were still down by nine points, but Curry took it to the next level. After the game, Curry said: “That’s the story of this team.
CNN —The Brooklyn Nets have made a terrible start to the NBA season and on Saturday star forward Yuta Watanabe didn’t make matters any easier by comically scoring in the opposite team’s basket. At the Barclays Centre, the Nets went down 125-116 to the Indiana Pacers to go 1-5 for the season. It was the Nets’ fourth straight loss and one coach Steve Nash called a “disaster.”The night started ominously when, in the first quarter, Watanabe accidentally scored for the Pacers. The comical two-pointer cut the Nets’ lead before the Pacers tied at the end of the first quarter. As the Pacers pulled away from the struggling Nets, rookie Bennedict Mathurin scored a career-high 32 points in a team record 23 three-pointers.
With the game tied at 54-54 at halftime, the Nuggets pulled away in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game as they outscored the Lakers 32-17. “I felt that third quarter was one of our best quarters in a very short season,” Nuggets head coach Mike Malone told reporters after the game. “We got the win, but more importantly, we got the win playing how we need to play,” he added. “We gotta make some shots,” Lakers superstar James said after the game, “Some of it is early season stuff, obviously. The Lakers next play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday in a bid to turn their season around, while the Nuggets host the Utah Jazz.
