Beyond Meat will introduce a whole-muscle steak alternative as part of its pivot to win over health-conscious consumers. In recent months, Brown has blamed some of the plant-based meat industry's woes on misinformation from the meat industry and cattle farmers, such as skepticism about plant-based meat's processing. Beyond already sells plant-based steak tips, but the new product mimics the texture of a filet with mycelium, the rootlike part of fungi. Brown envisions the steak alternative as a substitute for chicken, topping salads and stuffing burritos as a source of protein. The new products have short ingredients lists, in the hopes of winning over customers who previously thought plant-based meat was too processed.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday discussed Starbucks ' management shake-up, saying the new leadership will be crucial to turn the business around after the ubiquitous coffee chain announced it would replace CEO Laxman Narasimhan with Brian Niccol, who is currently the CEO of Chipotle . "Brian Niccol is the key to a new Starbucks, one that can reclaim its old mantle as the 'third place' — you just need to know that this turnaround can't happen overnight," he said. According to Cramer, Narasimhan wasn't the right person for the role, saying Starbucks needed an executive familiar with the fast-food industry to effectively solve its issues. Niccol's record at Chipotle makes him a great fit for the role, Cramer said. "No, Starbucks brought in Brian Niccol, the man who almost singlehandedly turned around Chipotle, to run the business.

GARM creates frameworks to provide common definitions around areas like hate speech and misinformation; it's voluntary whether advertisers use them. It doesn't rank platforms on these issues, and its role isn't to advise advertisers on where to spend their dollars. Shares of Disney fell Wednesday as concerns about attendance at its theme parks overshadowed streaming profits and better-than-expected headline results. The combined streaming business — encompassing Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ — turned in its first-ever quarterly profit slightly ahead of schedule. Then, about two weeks ago, CNBC parent Comcast issued weak April-to-June results for its Universal theme parks business, which weighed on Disney's stock in that session . And, at this point, getting to profitability in the combined streaming business, which adds ESPN+ into the mix, was the biggest focus. "So, I do believe the parks business is in fundamentally good shape.

Bags of sugar that leave the Dalmia Bharat Sugar mill in the western Indian city of Kolhapur come with an industry guarantee: It was harvested humanely, in fields free of child labor, debt bondage and abuse. The mill is certified by a group called Bonsucro, which sets the industry standard for sugar production. But a New York Times investigation found that Bonsucro’s inspections were all but guaranteed not to find problems. Internal documents and interviews with sugar mill executives, experts and Bonsucro contractors show that mills retain tremendous control over what auditors see and whom they can talk to. Even the auditor who said she inspected the Dalmia mill said turning up problems was extremely rare.

New research identifies the 10 best-performing US stocks since 1926. Of 29,000 US stocks traded since 1926, most had negative returns, but top performers showed consistent gains. Of course, identifying the 10 best-performing stocks for the next 100 years is nearly impossible, as the paper's author points out. "The majority (51.6%) of these stocks had negative cumulative returns," finance professor Hendrik Bessembinder of Arizona State University wrote. Bessembinder also observed that the 10 best-performing stocks delivered consistently modest annualized gains, reinforcing the slow and steady mantra championed by long-term investors.

PepsiCo says it's two-thirds of the way done with an overhaul of its supply chain. This article is part of "The Future of Supply-Chain Management," a series on companies' manufacturing and distribution strategies. With more automation, workers are doing fewer physical tasks, like driving a forklift, and far more oversight of the machines taking over those tasks. Workers at manufacturing facilities and distribution centers and the unions that represent them often bristle at automation, which can lead to layoffs. Even as it has invested in automation, PepsiCo's total workforce has swelled: It grew by 20%, to 318,000, over the five years that ended in 2023.
