Kristi Noem keeps hurting her chances to become Donald Trump's running mate. Donald Trump's campaign said it raised $50.5 million on Saturday, a staggering reported haul as his campaign works to catch up to the fundraising juggernaut of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. Trump and the GOP announced earlier in the week that they raised more than $65.6 million in March and closed out the month with $93.1 million. Biden and the Democrats announced Saturday that they took in more than $90 million last month and had $192 million-plus on hand. Campaign fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission detailing donations from Saturday's event are not expected until a mid-July filing date. But when checks of any amount are written to the combined campaign, the campaign and Save America get paid first by default.

Nikki Haley will announce Wednesday that she is exiting the Republican presidential race, according to sources familiar with her plans, clearing the path for former President Donald Trump. Still, in her campaign, Haley became the first Republican woman to win two primary contests: Vermont and the District of Columbia. Former 2024 candidates, including biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and North Dakota Gov. At the time, Haley was seen as a rising GOP star and potential vice presidential pick in 2012 and 2016. Six Republican and unaffiliated voters in Colorado had filed the lawsuit that led to the state Supreme Court ruling. Grimsley predicted that claim will be closely scrutinized by the Supreme Court justices during oral arguments. "I think the justices will be very interested in that question, if only because President or former President Trump has made that the lead argument in this case," Grimsley said. Three of the nine Supreme Court justices who will hear his appeal Thursday were appointed by Trump — Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. Three other justices who were appointed by Republican presidents with Trump's appointees comprise a conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court.

With Donald Trump poised to capture the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, the former president is effectively holding auditions for a running mate – and a growing list of vice presidential hopefuls is starting to surface. Doug BurgumThe North Dakota governor, another Republican primary contender at one point, ran on small-town, business-savvy, conservative-values charm. He was on hand in New Hampshire on primary day, stumping for Trump and glad-handing with voters. “Not only do [Republicans] support President Trump, we support his policies,” Greene in an interview with MSNBC. Positioned directly behind Trump as he delivered his New Hampshire primary victory speech, Scott showed his allegiance to the former president while managing to sidestep a setup to bash Haley, telling Trump, "I just love you," Trump replied: "That's why you're a great politician."

The most recent polling on the race, published Monday by The Washington Post and Monmouth University, signals another Trump shellacking: 52% of potential primary voters said they support Trump, compared with 34% who back Haley. The poll, which was conducted prior to DeSantis dropping out, showed that just 8% of voters preferred him. “Even with a bump in the number of Democratic leaners turning out in the Republican primary, Haley is not able to catch the front-runner,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a statement. The former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. has the support of New Hampshire Gov. Though still considered a long shot, New Hampshire likely gives Haley her best chance of challenging the former president, especially since any independent or unaffiliated voter can participate in the state’s primary.

The former South Carolina governor is pushing back hard against Trump’s bid to end the GOP primary race after only two nominating contests. She’s calling on voters to make a generational shift and is appealing especially to independents who can join the GOP primary in New Hampshire. According to a CNN poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire before DeSantis dropped out, Haley trailed Trump by 13 points in a two-person race. But like the late Arizona senator, Haley might still have a South Carolina problem. Even Haley’s most vehement supporter, New Hampshire GOP Gov.

“America does not do coronations,” Haley said at a VFW hall in Franklin, joined by her daughter and son-in-law. On paper, Trump had seemed more vulnerable in New Hampshire than in any other early voting state on the primary calendar. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina is expected to endorse former President Donald Trump ahead of Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, a blow to his fellow South Carolinian Nikki Haley, the former U.N. ambassador. A person familiar with Scott’s plans confirmed Friday to The Associated Press that Scott was expected to travel from Florida to New Hampshire with the GOP front-runner. Scott last May launched his own bid to challenge Trump before shuttering his effort about six months later. Trump has been appearing on the campaign trail with several other former rivals, who have endorsed him, including North Dakota Gov. Scott's endorsement was sought by the remaining major contenders in the Republican primary, particularly ahead of South Carolina's Feb. 24 primary, which has historically been influential in determining the eventual nominee.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s huge win in the Iowa caucuses on Monday enshrines one of the most astonishing comebacks in American political history. His MAGA-hat wearing crowd greeted him with chants of “Trump, Trump, Trump” beneath two vast screens reading “Trump wins Iowa!”But the ex-president’s rebound is more stunning for another reason. Trump’s Iowa victory also sharpens the collision between the 2024 election and his legal imbroglio. His unhinged behavior, incessant shattering of rules and challenges to the law reinvigorated a brand perfectly tailored to Republican voters who despise “elites” in politics, government and the media. Trump’s victory will also give Russian President Vladimir Putin another reason to prolong the bloody war in Ukraine.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s easy win in Iowa on Monday confirms that there really is no race for the Republican nomination this year. Iowa is a solid red state that gives a good sense of where the Republican Party as a whole stands today. The DeSantis campaign and its outside allies spent $35 million in the state between January 1, 2023, and January 12 of this year. Even with an almost 2:1 spending advantage over Trump, DeSantis couldn’t mount an effective challenge — not even with the backing of Reynolds and Vander Plaats. DeSantis and Haley were not weak opponents — but as Iowa shows, even strong rivals can’t touch Trump.

CNN —The Republican presidential debates have so far produced two big winners – one who will be center stage Wednesday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the fourth GOP matchup, and another who won’t be there at all. The good news for Haley is that she is now running neck-and-neck for second place with the formerly formidable Florida Gov. In skipping the debates, Trump wagered that without his oversized presence, his opponents would primarily train their fire on each other. With Trump absent, Haley, who thus far has mostly eluded frontal attacks, is more likely to get frontrunner treatment from her rivals on Wednesday night. Chris Christie, the most outspoken critic of Trump in the Republican field, also hopes to make New Hampshire a breakthrough moment.

CNN —Four candidates have qualified for the fourth GOP presidential primary debate taking place Wednesday night in Alabama, the Republican National Committee and debate broadcaster NewsNation announced Monday. Chris Christie will face off in Tuscaloosa in what will be the smallest debate stage lineup so far this year. To make the Tuscaloosa stage, candidates had to meet higher donor and polling criteria set by the Republican National Committee. None of their debate criteria relate to the qualifications related to actually doing the job of the president. Asa Hutchinson remains in the GOP race, though he has not qualified for any primary debates since his appearance at the first face-off in Milwaukee in August.

Doug Burgum ended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday after a stronger-than-expected showing fueled by a gift card-for-campaign donation gimmick that helped get him on the debate stage. The tactic drew skepticism over its legality, though Burgum's campaign said its legal advisers had reviewed and approved the method. He failed to qualify for the third debate, however, after coming up short on the polling requirements. And it appeared that he would also not qualify for the fourth debate.
