HALCHITA, Utah — After a five-year wait, Lorraine Black and Ricky Gillis heard the rumblings of an electrical crew reach their home on the sprawling Navajo Nation. In five days’ time, their home would be connected to the power grid, replacing their reliance on a few solar panels and propane lanterns. Some rely on solar panels or generators, which can be patchy, and others have no electricity whatsoever. Gillis and Black filed an application to connect their home back in 2019. But when the coronavirus pandemic started ravaging the tribe and everything besides essential services was shut down on the reservation, it further stalled the process.

The Invesco Solar ETF (TAN) and the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) have tumbled more than 9% and 10%, respectively. While Trump's platform says he wants to unleash production from all sources, the document specifically calls out oil, gas and nuclear. How voters perceive the two candidates' energy policies could end up playing an influential role in the outcome of the election altogether. While the election will bring short-term volatility, the solar industry remains well positioned for long-term growth, according to Bank of America. About 25% of oil and 10% of natural gas production is on federal land and waters, according to the bank.

Unlike with the hurricane rumor response page, FEMA did not appear to respond to the rumors on its page for the wildfires. By 2009, Alex Jones, perhaps one of the most widely known modern conspiracy theorists, was promoting the false FEMA camps conspiracy theory and deriding those who attempted to debunk it. The FEMA camps conspiracy theory continued throughout the height of the pandemic after President Joe Biden signed various executive orders regarding vaccinations and testing. Ron DeSantis said the plan was “not necessary” and referred to the vaccination sites as “FEMA camps.”Although the FEMA camp conspiracy theory has been shot down again and again, Aniano believes this won’t be the last of it. “The conspiracy theory, it’s going to come up again,” Aniano said.

A double quarter pounder with cheese and fries arranged at a McDonald's restaurant in El Sobrante, California, US, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024. McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers will return to roughly 900 restaurants this week after the fast-food giant pulled the menu item linked to a deadly E. coli outbreak . Instead, health authorities have honed in on slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounders as the likely suspect for the outbreak. Over a two-week period, McDonald's typically sells roughly one million Quarter Pounders in the affected region, according to company spokespeople. Shares of the company have fallen 7% since the CDC linked the E. coli outbreak to its restaurants.

CNN —McDonald’s will resume selling Quarter Pounders in all restaurants in the coming week after considering new data regarding an E. coli outbreak linked to its famed burgers, the company announced Sunday. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert Tuesday warning dozens of people reported eating the Quarter Pounder sandwich at McDonald’s before becoming sick. On Sunday, the Colorado Department of Agriculture said McDonald’s beef patties used for the Quarter Pounder tested negative for E. coli. The 900 restaurants that received slivered onions from McDonald’s supplier Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility will resume sales of Quarter Pounders without slivered onions, the release added. CNN has reached out to the FDA to see if it has ruled out beef patties as the source of the E. coli outbreak.

To tackle the problem, American Airlines is trialing new technology at airports in New Mexico, Arizona and Virginia. Passengers who attempt to board before their assigned group is called will set off an error beep, alerting the gate agent — and also rule-abiding fellow passengers. At least 75 people have gotten sick after eating McDonald's Quarter Pounders linked to a deadly E. coli strain, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday. On Thursday, McDonald's confirmed that Taylor Farms, a California-based food producer, supplied the onions used on the contaminated Quarter Pounders. Taylor Farms on Wednesday issued a recall on four raw onion products because of "potential E. Coli contamination." It remains unclear whether Taylor Farms transported the slivered onions directly to McDonald's locations or if they arrived through a distributor. Taylor Farms has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

Brands spokesperson also confirmed onions were removed from some of its Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC locations. “As we continue to monitor the recently reported E. coli outbreak, and out of an abundance of caution, we have proactively removed fresh onions from select Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC restaurants,” the spokesperson said. The CDC has reported 49 cases and 10 hospitalizations due the McDonald's E. Coli outbreak.

A deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald 's Quarter Pounders has led to 75 cases in 13 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday, as it investigates the source of the spread. All of the 42 people who were interviewed by the CDC reported eating at McDonald's, while 39 people reported eating a beef hamburger, the agency said. Quarter Pounder hamburgers are a core menu item for McDonald's, raking in billions of dollars annually. As the CDC and other federal agencies trace cases and work to contain the outbreak, McDonald's has pulled Quarter Pounders from restaurants in the affected areas. Experts told CNBC that barring a more serious crisis, the damage to its brand may be minimal, as with an E. coli outbreak linked to Wendy's two years ago.

The CDC opened the investigation on Tuesday, initially reporting 49 cases in 10 states – including 10 hospitalizations and one death. New York CNN —A Colorado man has filed the first lawsuit against McDonald’s relating to its E. coli outbreak linked to Quarter Pounders that, so far, has led to at least 49 illnesses across 10 states, including one death. The lawsuit was filed one day after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert warning that dozens of people reported eating the Quarter Pounder sandwich at McDonald’s before becoming sick. The lawsuit, a copy of which was posted online by Bloomberg Law, accuses McDonald’s of product liability, negligence and breach of implied warranties. “The McDonald’s E. coli Outbreak will be one of the most significant food poisoning outbreaks this year,” Simon said in a press release. Diced onions and other types of beef patties used at McDonald’s have not been implicated in this outbreak, the FDA said.

With Kinsel’s death, only two Navajo Code Talkers are still alive: Former Navajo Chairman Peter MacDonald and Thomas H. Begay. Hundreds of Navajos were recruited by the Marines to serve as Code Talkers during the war, transmitting messages based on their then-unwritten native language. The Code Talkers sent thousands of messages without error on Japanese troop movements, battlefield tactics and other communications crucial to the war’s ultimate outcome. SUNLAND PARK, N.M. — In each of the last two summers, Laura Mae Williams, who recovers bodies for the New Mexico Medical Investigator’s Office, has had to visit the U.S.-Mexico borderlands multiple times a week. The Medical Investigator’s Office, part of the University of New Mexico Health System, used to recover only a handful of bodies a year. First responders, elected officials and advocates in New Mexico attribute the spike in deaths largely to Texas Gov. Officials, including the New Mexico Medical Investigator’s Office, also blame smugglers for the deaths, noting that in many cases they abandon people who fall behind — but only after they take their phones. “It raises an important question,” said Dr. Heather Jarrell, the chief medical examiner at the Medical Investigator’s Office, whose office marks the deaths as accidental.
