July 18 (Reuters) - Kering (PRTP.PA) managing director Jean-Francois Palus has been appointed to lead star label Gucci after a management reshuffle at the top ranks of the French luxury goods company. His death, caught on video, has reignited longstanding complaints by poor and racially mixed urban communities of police violence and racism. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said early on Saturday that 270 people had been arrested on Friday night, bringing the total to more than 1,100 since unrest ignited. In Lyon, France's third-largest city, the gendarmes police force deployed armoured personnel carriers and a helicopter to quell the unrest. Darmanin asked local authorities across France to halt bus and tram traffic from 9 p.m. (1900 GMT) and said 45,000 officers were being deployed, 5,000 more than on Thursday. In Paris, police cleared protesters from the iconic central Place de la Concorde square on Friday night after an impromptu demonstration.

PARIS, June 26 (Reuters) - Gucci-owner Kering (PRTP.PA) said on Monday it had struck a deal to buy high-end French fragrance label Creed, its first acquisition since flagging intentions earlier this year to create an in-house cosmetics business. "The acquisition clearly marks a major step for Kering Beaute, allowing it to reach critical mass in this category," said Raffaella Cornaggia, CEO of Kering's beauty division. The former Estee Lauder executive was appointed in February to lead the French group's push into the segment. The all-cash deal to acquire 100% of the high-end fragrance house from funds controlled by BlackRock and by the company's current chairman Javier Ferran is expected to close in the second half this year. PARIS, June 23 (Reuters) - Luxury brands focused on wealthier consumers in the United States are performing better than those who appeal to aspirational shoppers on lower incomes who are deterred by the economic uncertainty, consultancy Bain & company said. For example, premium fashion retailer Hugo Boss last week raised its sales and profit targets for 2025 and said it continued to see strong growth in the U.S. and was expecting revenue to grow in the Asia-Pacific region. Lovato said that while there were "some questions marks" about China, and possibly a slowing of sales growth with the middle class, there was still appetite there. Discussions on the Olympics deal, being negotiated by Antoine, revolve around promotions focused on LVMH as a group, its two biggest fashion labels - the Louis Vuitton and Dior brands - as well as champagne. However, the behind-the-scenes role of the oldest of Arnault’s four sons, Antoine, hasn't been widely known. Although Antoine Arnault's work shepherding LVMH's sponsorship of the Olympic Games is taking place behind closed doors, the outcome would be highly public. Steve Martin, global CEO of M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, said that while LVMH is already associated with France, a formal sponsorship of the Olympics would help to further differentiate LVMH from luxury rivals. “If we get involved it would be to help out,” LVMH fashion group CEO Sidney Toledano told Reuters.

What Does Gay Pride Smell Like?

Every year, millions of people flock to Manhattan festooned in rainbows and feathers and leather to celebrate the annual Pride March. Many of them will traipse down Christopher Street, home of the Stonewall Inn, the epicenter of the modern gay rights movement in New York. For $45, Literie is selling “Pride on Christopher Street,” a candle made in collaboration with NYC & Company, the city’s official tourism and marketing arm. All profits — about $30 per candle after production costs, according to Literie — are going to Heritage of Pride, the nonprofit behind the city’s official Pride events. It was hard to pinpoint what would Pride smell like.”
