CNN —President Joe Biden on Friday formally apologized to Native Americans for what he described as “one of the most horrific chapters in American history,” government-funded boarding schools that abused indigenous children and forced them to assimilate over a 150-year period. Three years ago, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary, commissioned the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative to review the schools’ impacts on Native Americans. Their final report, issued this summer, found at least 973 Native American children died while attending these federal boarding schools. It’s the first time he has visited Indian Country as president and the first time in 10 years a sitting president has visited tribal lands. He paused his speech to say that the killing of people in Gaza “has to stop.”CNN’s Arlette Saenz contributed to this report.

After they were reminded repeatedly about the rules against making meritless ballot challenges, the groups of poll watchers “turned disruptive,” according to Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy. For the vast majority of Americans, it’s pretty smooth.”Across the country, election officials are also vowing voters will be able to safely cast their ballots. This year’s crop of election observers is set to include people who have denied Trump’s 2020 election loss. Hilby stressed that it’s often important for poll watchers to understand what they’re seeing. “The best way to combat it is to just be as transparent as possible, and election officials really are committed to doing that.

The Many Links Between Project 2025 and Trump’s WorldFormer president Donald J. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he had nothing to do with Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s conservative policy initiative to reshape the federal government. ZorcJump to the full list of authors, editors and contributorsSpokespeople for Project 2025 have denied that they are advocates for any particular candidate, and Project 2025 has no official ties to the Trump campaign. Project 2025 additionally calls for the dismantling of the federal Education Department, which Mr. Trump has also pledged to do.

By Thursday evening, after a series of court battles and escalating appeals, the Texas Supreme Court had issued a temporary stay of execution. DETROIT — Investors misinterpreted a public offering last week by Lucid Group that raised roughly $1.75 billion — and led to the stock's worst daily performance in nearly three years — CEO Peter Rawlinson told CNBC. It also should alleviate worries that the company would issue a "going concern" disclosure regarding its operations, he said. As a Nasdaq company, we have to avoid a going concern. And a going concern is issued within 12 months of your financial runway," Rawlinson said Monday from the company's newly opened offices in suburban Detroit. DETROIT — A growing number of Americans with auto loans owe more than their vehicles are worth, according to a report Tuesday from Edmunds.com. Upside-down car loans aren't necessarily dire on their own, but a growing number of consumers being underwater is another indication of pressure on American consumers. Edmunds reports more than one in five consumers with negative equity owe more than $10,000 on their auto loans. That includes 22% of vehicle owners with negative equity who owed $10,000 or more, while 7.5% have negative equity of more than $15,000. Consumers can counter upside-down car loans by holding onto the vehicles for longer periods.
