A rise in American Jewish gun ownership would come as a noticeable shift for a group that is historically liberal and a majority of which are registered Democrats. A 2018 American Jewish Committee poll showed 70% of Jewish respondents thought it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect Americans’ rights to own guns. The US government does not keep official statistics on gun ownership, including demographic information. Research from industry groups like the National Shooting Sports Foundation break down gun ownership by race and gender but not by religious affiliation. The spike in violence and hateful rhetoric has evoked fears within the Jewish community of another Holocaust, according to Daniel.

November 1 - While the Los Angeles Lakers are, without question, the most popular NBA team in Southern California, the Los Angeles Clippers continue to develop into the homegrown squad. With the Lakers set to play host, the team's 12 championship banners from their Los Angeles tenure will hang over the proceedings -- the titles earning fans from multiple generations. The Clippers, though, are an assemblage of local talent, with the pending trade for 10-time All-Star James Harden only adding to that collection. Harden, a product of Artesia High School in nearby Lakewood, Calif., joins three other All-Stars from the Los Angeles area: Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook. Sandra, a Gen Xer, recently moved from the Los Angeles area to the beaches of North Carolina. While the weather isn't as ideal, North Carolina has been a pleasant surprise. She moved to Los Angeles with her parents and her sister when she was 15. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles, for a year in the early 1950s and, after acting in plays in the Los Angeles area in the early and mid-1950s, appeared in her first movie role, a small part in Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments” (1956). After some more screen work and roles in Off and Off Off Broadway plays, Ms. Merlin made her Broadway debut in 1961 in Jean Anouilh’s “Becket,” as Gwendolen, the mistress of Thomas Becket, one of Britain’s most powerful figures in the 12th century, who was played by Laurence Olivier. Although she lacked a strong singing voice, she was cast as Tzeitel, the oldest daughter of Tevye the milkman, the show’s principal character. A California law would set a sliding scale for electricity bills based on a household's income. It doesn't totally take out of the equation how much power each household uses: Part of each bill will still be based on that. But each bill also will have "fixed charges" that will be set based on income. Cities like Los Angeles need to build out their electric system to deal with increased demand. "This makes it cheaper to use electricity to operate electric cars or appliances," the NRDC argues — something that could become key in stoking demand for EVs.

By Rotation, a U.K.-based clothing rental app, hopes to eliminate the need for fast fashion by making peer-to-peer clothing rental mainstream in the United States. Individual users decide if they are willing to ship their items to users in other states. Despite the expected growth, online fashion rental and resale has proven to be a difficult business, especially on Wall Street. As the app grows, the startup is taking steps to ensure renters are trustworthy and lenders' items are protected from damage. "I wanted to wear nice clothes on my holiday and I thought about renting but there was no sort of digital fashion rental player here in the U.K. or even Europe," she said.

Drivers told Insider riders should tip and that Uber was partly to blame for low tips. Insider spoke with several ride-hailing and delivery drivers, each of whom pushed back on many of the arguments made by the commenters on the Times story. Chris, a 28-year-old Uber Eats driver in upstate New York, said: "Uber has successfully convinced customers that drivers get paid way more than we do." In-app tipping wasn't even an option for Uber riders until 2017, roughly five years after Lyft rolled out the feature. He said he always tipped at least 20% whenever he took an Uber, Lyft, or cab.
First Republic had raided Wall Street wirehouses including Morgan Stanley, UBS, and Wells Fargo for its top wealth advisor talent over the last several years. Now, the embattled bank is seeing an exodus of the talent it lured— and Morgan Stanley is emerging as a winner. Two sources familiar with hiring discussions at Morgan Stanley told Insider that the bank was not matching those top-of-market deals. Morgan Stanley was one of 11 banks to provide a combined $30 billion in uninsured deposits to First Republic. Morgan Stanley revealed in an earnings call that about $19.6 billion in net new assets were attributable to advisors and clients fleeing struggling banks like First Republic for Morgan Stanley.
They responded to common reasons people don't want to tip their delivery drivers. Eight years later, Avedian said he's completed over 5,000 Uber and Lyft rides and a couple thousand food deliveries. Alix Anfang, an Uber spokesperson, told Insider that tipping has increased since 2020. "Food delivery has always had a high tipping rate, but the average tip on a delivery increased even further by about 20%." "If it wasn't for tips, delivery drivers wouldn't be making any money, period," Avedian said.
