☆ Peloton announces Ford exec, founder of Apple Fitness+ Peter Stern as its next CEO

Peloton on Thursday said it has appointed Peter Stern, a Ford executive and the cofounder of Apple Fitness+ to be its next CEO and president. Stern, the president of Ford Integrated Services, primarily oversees the automotive company's subscription services, such as BlueCruise, Pro Intelligence, connectivity and security. Stern is slated to step down from his role at Ford and take the helm of Peloton on Jan. 1. Stern is the third CEO to lead Peloton in its history. "Peter is a seasoned strategist with a track record of driving sustainable growth through innovation, and we have every confidence in his ability to lead Peloton during this important time.

One thing is clear: The days of projecting a winner on election night itself are almost certainly over. Kendra Panteah, 37, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of kidnapping not resulting in death in federal court in Albuquerque, according to court records. Another man, Gilbert John Jr., fatally stabbed the victim, the prosecutor's office said. Panteah said the two other people got out as she drove to Gallup with the man still locked in the trunk, according to the plea agreement. They stopped at Bass Lake, which is where the victim began breaking out of the trunk and John stabbed him repeatedly with a machete, Panteah and prosecutors said. He and Panteah sat on the trunk of the car until the victim stopped moving, according to Panteah's plea agreement.

☆ Supreme Court allows Virginia to purge suspected noncitizens from voter registration rolls

Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, framed the effort in Virginia as a commonsense way of ensuring noncitizens don’t vote. At issue are about 1,600 voter registrations that Virginia said came from self-identified noncitizens but that a US District Court said hadn’t been fully vetted for citizenship status. Noncitizens are not allowed to vote in federal elections; none of the lower court rulings had changed that fact. But documented cases of noncitizens voting are extremely rare. Those opposed to the program relied on a 1993 law, the National Voter Registration Act, which bars states from making “systematic” changes to voting rolls with 90 days of a federal election.

CNN —The Supreme Court declined Tuesday to let Robert F. Kennedy Jr. withdraw his name from ballots in Michigan and Wisconsin, battleground states where votes for his now suspended campaign could cut into support for former President Donald Trump. Kennedy, who left the presidential race in August and endorsed Trump, urged the Supreme Court in an emergency appeal to force the states to yank his name from the ballots. The Supreme Court handed down its decision without further explanation, which is common on its emergency docket. The Supreme Court also rejected that request. “This election is not merely ‘imminent,’ it is already underway, and voters are already voting,” Michigan officials had told the Supreme Court.

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested Thursday following a minor crash in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, according to the Franklin Police Department. Cutler was taken into custody by police and a blood search warrant was obtained at a nearby medical center. Cutler was booked into Williamson County Jail and released on $5,000 bond, according to police. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler in Chicago, in 2019. Cutler and Cavallari share three children together, two boys and a girl.

CNN —Special counsel Jack Smith on Friday released nearly 2,000 heavily redacted pages of documents in his 2020 election subversion criminal case against former President Donald Trump, revealing snippets of the evidence Smith relied on to charge the former president. The documents were released a day after Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a bid by Trump to pause the release. Others include a myriad of claims of voter fraud during the 2020 election. The final volume includes memos from lawyer John Eastman with a plan for Pence to reject the congressional certification of the 2020 election. Prosecutors have charged Trump with four crimes stemming from his actions following his 2020 election loss, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction.

CNN —A Travis County judge granted a Texas House committee’s last-minute temporary restraining order request against the state just 90 minutes before Robert Roberson was scheduled to be executed Thursday. While authorities have not confirmed the execution is delayed, Roberson’s attorneys and the committee fighting for him told CNN they believe the execution is currently halted. “This is an injustice and his blood is on Abbott and Anderson County,” she told CNN.
