September has been unkind to stocks – living up to its historical reputation as the weakest month for the S & P 500 . Still, some Club stocks have been able to buck the downward trend since the start of the month — and none more so than Humana (HUM). The health insurer advanced 7.3% through Friday's close, putting it among the top-10 performing stocks in the S & P 500 over that stretch. In a year largely characterized by outperformance in technology stocks, health care has been one of the worst S & P 500 sectors . The stock entered Monday's session down more than 11% in 2023, the third-worst of any Club stock.

There will be up to $1.5 billion of costs related to separating the health care business, 3M has said. Its interest cover, after backing out estimated operating income from health care, would fall to about 4 times from 11 times. And its net debt, using all these assumptions and excluding the health care division, would swell to nearly 5 times EBITDA from less than 2 times. Back out $2.5 billion from health care, as estimated by the Morgan Stanley team, and $1.5 billion of capital expenditure costs noted by Wolfe Research. For example, the water settlement, as drafted, only envisions $4.6 billion of outlays through 2025, and the rest over the ensuing 11 years.

The Club's industrials are set to profit from a burgeoning trend of companies bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. from overseas. As companies reconstruct supply chains in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mizuho analysts see a multiyear revenue benefit for Western industrials. But companies that enable manufacturing automation, including Emerson, follow closely behind as "core beneficiaries" of the reindustrialization cycle, according to Mizuho. Meanwhile, Mizuho pointed to Honeywell as one of the companies offering a more diversified way for investors to gain reshoring exposure. PARIS/TORONTO, June 18 (Reuters) - A year ahead of the Paris Olympics, flying taxi maker Volocopter wants to prove to executives at the Paris Airshow it is on track to ferry customers around the sporting showcase and take off globally. Success could boost the broader urban air mobility sector by persuading risk-averse investors that air taxis are worth putting money into, analysts and executives said. No flying taxi maker, whether Germany's Lilium or American player Joby, has received certification so far. Air mobility projects that went public through special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC) in recent years have lost at least 30% of their initial value. Venture capital is down across several industries, with a shift in spend from air taxis to drones, Riedel said.

The market just enjoyed a big relief rally and some stocks are on the verge of breaking out even higher, according to a bullish chart pattern. CNBC Pro used FactSet data to screen the S & P 500 for stocks that are about to form a so-called "golden cross," in which their 50-day moving average breaks above the 200-day trend line. This has been a reliable bullish signal that historically indicates strong rallies on the horizon. Shares have gained 7% this month after the company reported first-quarter results in line with analysts' expectations, according to FactSet. Dow-component Honeywell International is also on the brink of a "golden cross."

Don Bateman, an engineer who invented a cockpit device that warns airplane pilots with colorful screen displays and dire audible alerts like “Caution Terrain!” and “Pull Up!” when they are in danger of crashing into mountains, buildings or water — an innovation that has likely saved thousands of lives — died on May 21 at his home in Bellevue, Wash. His daughter Katherine McCaslin said the cause was complications of Parkinson’s disease. The ground proximity warning system that Mr. Bateman began working on in the late 1960s, and continued to improve until he retired from Honeywell International in 2016, warns pilots against accidentally slamming into land or water because of poor visibility and bad weather, once the most common cause of airline deaths. That category of plane crash has nearly been eliminated. “Don Bateman and his team have probably saved more lives through safety system technologies than anyone else in aviation history,” Charley Pereira, a former senior aerospace engineer with the National Transportation Safety Board, wrote in an email, estimating the number in the thousands.

[1/3] An Air France aircraft, operated with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by TotalEnergies, is refueled before its first flight from Nice to Paris at Nice airport, France, October 1, 2021. Sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, is typically made using biomass-based feedstocks such as soybean oil and used cooking oil. Honeywell said its process can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 88% compared with traditional petroleum-based jet fuel. SAF is typically two to four times costlier than petroleum-based jet fuel. The United States produces around 24.7 billion gallons of petroleum-based jet fuel annually.

Global Executives Say Greenwashing Remains Rife
  + stars: | 2023-04-13 | by ( Rochelle Toplensky | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +4 min
Most global executives think greenwashing is widespread in their industry, and despite customers becoming more vocal about preferring sustainable brands, many companies are cutting corners on their environmental, social and corporate governance initiatives. PREVIEWThe risk of greenwashing is increasing with crackdowns on overstated green claims on both sides of the Atlantic. Despite that threat, the figures are consistent with last year’s findings: Nearly 60% say their own organization is overstating its sustainability methods. Nearly three-quarters of executives said they want to advance sustainability efforts but don’t actually know how to go about doing it. Most executives surveyed—85%—said customers and clients are becoming more vocal about their preference for engaging with sustainable brands.
