For Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump, each could be a crucial building block in a winning swing-state coalition. In 2016, with Mr. Trump in the race, these areas began to march to national trends: Rural areas trended Republican, while Milwaukee’s well-off, close-in suburbs zoomed left. Still, loyalties remain potent in Wisconsin, from Democratic-leaning, ancestrally Scandinavian voters in the state’s rural west to middle-class suburban Republicans outside Milwaukee. Mr. Trump lost Nash County by just 0.2 points in 2020 and Wilson County by three points.

Vice President Kamala Harris will make campaign stops in Milwaukee, La Crosse and Green Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday as she continues to campaign across Blue Wall states, according to a campaign official. The vice president will then travel to La Crosse where she will hold a rally at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in an effort to engage young voters. Harris will wrap up her day with a rally in Green Bay, alongside Wisconsin leaders. Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. The Dallas Cowboys were walloped at home Sunday, getting blown out to the tune of 47-9 by the Detroit Lions — the Cowboys’ fourth straight loss at home dating to last postseason. The Lions had a 27-6 lead after two quarters — continuing a disturbing trend for the Cowboys. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott struggled, throwing for only 178 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions before he was pulled in the fourth quarter. The loss dropped the Cowboys to third place in the NFC East, behind the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. In Week 5, scoring returned — and, in several cases, it happened in some of the oddest and most unexpected ways. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Tank Bigsby was first hit 14 yards from the end zone by one Indianapolis Colts tackler and appeared to be wrapped up by another at the 11. Yet, with two teammates pushing him forward, he wound up with a touchdown instead of a short gain, a score that became part of Jacksonville’s first victory. Two minutes before halftime, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love dropped back into his end zone and was shoved with two hands — but not sacked for a safety — by a chasing Rams defender. Officially, he went 101 yards, 18 yards longer than Seattle’s previous franchise record for a fumble return.

Nguyen: With Aaron Rodgers’ age and their defense, the Jets have a small window to make some noise. In theory, Adams would also add some much-needed explosiveness to a Jets offense that entered this week ranked 29th in the NFL in total yards and 27th in points. The Bills’ defense also suffered losses in free agency, and holes went unfilled even though Buffalo’s top competitors in the AFC include elite offenses in Kansas City, Baltimore and Cincinnati. Watson isn’t just not playing well, he’s playing like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Maybe improved offensive production would help ease pressure on the Browns’ defense.
