HONG KONG/NEW YORK, July 31 (Reuters) - For all the excitement whipped up in China's markets by the Politburo last week, foreign investors say policymakers' words will have to be matched by substantive action to clean up an ailing property sector before confidence recovers. "The question is what resources they will deploy, because China is still very focused on de-leveraging and preventing financial risks." Absolutely, and urgently," said Qi Wang, the chief investment officer (CIO) of MegaTrust Investment (HK), a boutique China fund manager specializing in domestic Chinese A-shares. Mark Dong, general manager of Minority Asset Management, based in Hong Kong, has reduced his exposure to the property sector. The safest bets in the sector, he said, had come down to state-owned companies such as China Resources Land (1109.HK) and Poly Property (0119.HK).

On the earnings front, Intel's (INTC.O) results and forecast pointed to an improving PC market, sending the chipmaker's shares up. NEW YORK, July 28 (Reuters) - Two hedge funds have placed bets that bonds issued by life insurance company Lincoln National Corp (LNC.N) will fall or that its default risk will increase, due to their concerns about the company's commercial real estate (CRE) exposure. Lincoln declined to provide comments on the hedge funds' positions and referred to previous remarks by its management. Fitch Ratings' senior director Jamie Tucker said in an email to Reuters the agency considers Lincoln's CRE exposure modestly below-average compared with the industry, while the quality is materially stronger. In April, Boaz Weinstein, founder of New York-based Saba, said in a post the firm was holding some of Lincoln's credit default swap (CDS), and had already sold some of it. loadingLincoln's CDS spread, a measure of credit risk, is 238 basis points, compared with 323 when Saba disclosed the position, meaning the perceived risk has declined.

Five hedge funds shared five trading ideas on global property markets, adding that they cannot reveal trading positions for regulatory reasons. CM REITs are companies that own mortgages of multi-family residential homes as well as commercial real estate loans. Cell phone data Litt bought to research a REIT run by Alexandria Real Estate Equities (ARE.N), showed that buildings which that were supposed to be almost fully occupied were only half full. Alexandria Real Estate responded pointing to public filings which said that it was the advancement of science and related intellectual property in Alexandria’s Labspace buildings, and not employee foot traffic that drove its demand for space. But Litt believes that the shift away from office working will also hurt life and sciences real estate, generally.

NEW YORK, July 21 (Reuters) - Investors poured $3.6 billion in fresh money into global hedge funds in the second quarter, data provider HFR said on Friday, helping drive the industry's assets up. In the first half of the year, the industry lured $12.64 billion, HFR showed. Equity hedge funds led the inflow in the second quarter of the year, adding $2.8 billion in new money, followed by event-driven funds. July 14 (Reuters) - BlackRock Inc (BLK.N), the world's biggest asset manager, handily beat second-quarter profit estimates but showed a slowdown in money inflows, sending shares down about 2%. Net inflows for the quarter were $80 billion, down from $89.6 billion a year ago and $110 billion in the first quarter, amid heightened economic uncertainties. Overall, shares in European banks are outperforming U.S. peers as they did not face the deposit flight experienced in the United States. "In Europe, hedge funds have rotated out of banks and insurance into financial services in the past couple of months, but still positioning in European banks remains stronger than in U.S. banks," Goldman Sachs said in the report obtained by Reuters. The data shows European investors are more bullish about banks on their own continent, while they have a more neutral approach to U.S. banks. The gap between European hedge funds' positioning in European and U.S. banks has widened mainly after a crisis this year in which U.S.-based bank Silicon Valley Bank and two other lenders failed. June 30 (Reuters) - Odey Asset Management (OAM) has proposed to restructure two of its key funds, according to letters to investors reviewed by Reuters, as part of efforts to extract founder Crispin Odey from the business after several assault and harassment allegations surfaced against him.
