The FBI on Friday said reports of racist and offensive text messages sent from anonymous phone numbers are now being sent to members of Latino and LGBTQ communities. The FBI is investigating previous reports of dozens of racist texts sent to Black Americans telling them they have been “selected" to pick cotton "at the nearest plantation" immediately following last week's election. The initial reports of racist texts last week included recipients who attend universities from California to South Carolina, with some sent via TextNow, a service compatible with untraceable, “burner” phone numbers. The FBI on Friday said the texts from the initial reports were not identical but seemed to follow similar themes. The agency said it's also sharing information on the expanding texts and emails with education institutions and faith leaders.

A South Carolina man accused of making a series of racist death threats online to a New York reporter has been arrested. Austin Suman, 35, of Myrtle Beach, has been charged with willfully making a threat involving explosives and interstate stalking, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said. Suman sent death threats Nov. 8 to the reporter via Facebook and email and used a racial slur and derogatory language, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday. Suman's anger stemmed from an article the reporter wrote about him in February 2019 about allegations of him threatening a roommate with a gun. Prosecutors said threats that neutralizing threats against the press are a priority.

Hedge fund billionaire David Tepper's bet on China involved increasing his exposure to the leading e-commerce companies in the world's second-largest economy, according to the latest securities filing. Tepper's Appaloosa Management more than doubled its position in Temu parent PDD Holdings in the third quarter, according to the hedge fund's quarterly filing. Between Alibaba , PDD and JD.com , Appaloosa held roughly $2 billion of Chinese e-commerce stocks at the end of September. The quarterly hedge fund filing released Thursday showed only positions in U.S.-traded equities, including American depositary receipts, and some derivatives. Adidas has signed Kaleena Smith as the bradn's first NIL high school basketball player. The German sports apparel brand on Thursday announced the signing of Kaleena Smith as its first high school girl's basketball partner under a name, image and likeness, or NIL, deal. The young basketball phenomenon represents Candace Parker's first signing since she took over as president of Adidas women's basketball in May. Parker, a former first-round WNBA draft pick, played 16 seasons in the WNBA and is a three-time WNBA champion and seven-time WNBA All-Star. Adidas tapped her to help evolve the company's women's basketball business.
