It’ll be a home game for the Orlando Magic on Thursday night, when they take on the Atlanta Hawks in Mexico City. It’ll feel like home in a way to Magic coach Jamahl Mosley, too. Mexico City, which now has a G League team, is thought to be a possible expansion site as well. Hawks coach Quin Snyder said this trip is an opportunity for his team to see a different culture. Hawks guard Trae Young is visiting Mexico City for the first time, and said he knows a little bit of the language.

The choice was unconventional: Eric Adams, the candidate who would go on to win the 2021 election for mayor of the nation’s financial capital, had picked an inexperienced 23-year-old to run his campaign’s fund-raising operation. Ostensibly, the fund-raiser, Brianna Suggs, did her job. Thanks in part to her work, the campaign would spend more than $18 million and win the election. But the unusual arrangement, which raised eyebrows in the tight-knit, professional world of Democratic political fund-raising, might have come at an extraordinary cost. On Thursday morning, federal agents raided Ms. Suggs’s home in Brooklyn and walked away with a wide range of materials, including three iPhones, two laptop computers and a manila folder labeled “Eric Adams.” The court-authorized search was part of an expansive public corruption investigation into whether the campaign conspired with the government of Turkey to receive illegal foreign donations.

When Wendy Yang Clark first arrived on City Island, a place she had never heard of, it was early-morning dark. A costume designer, she was there to work on the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” in this narrow, 1.5-mile-long section of the Bronx. “Then the sun comes up,” Ms. Clark said of that life-changing moment a decade ago, “and I’m in this little magical wonderland.”A woman walked by with several children, all carrying beach paraphernalia. “I asked her, ‘Is there a beach on this island?’ and she said, ‘There’s a beach on almost every block.’”Ms. Clark, 41, who was born in Hong Kong, studied theater at New York University, graduating in 2003. NEW YORK (AP) — To appeal to a new generation of philanthropists, the Brooklyn Community Foundation is ditching the word “foundation” and establishing itself with a new name: Brooklyn Org. “The point isn’t lost on Rainey, who says that no matter what people call it, Brooklyn Org is still a foundation. But she said the new name reflects different practices the foundation has put in place that let residents steer the course of the institution. All of the foundation’s discretionary grantmaking, Rainey says, uses a participatory approach, where residents research and pick nonprofits to receive grants. CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — James Harden skipped the Philadelphia 76ers’ media day and his status for training camp this week in Colorado is unclear because the franchise has yet to meet the disgruntled guard’s demand for a trade. Harden did picked up his $35.6 million contract option this season in June with the expectation the team would try to trade him. When no deal materialized for the seven-time All-NBA player, he blasted Morey at a promotional event in China. Harden’s play last season was a pivotal reason why the Sixers’ championship run stalled. That storm soaked New York City and caused widespread power outages in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Like other low-cost airlines, Miramar, Florida-based Spirit relies on added fees to help make up for lower base fares. Plaintiffs in the 2017 lawsuit accused the carrier of advertising misleading low prices on travel websites that concealed the "gotcha" bag fees travelers would have to pay at the airport. In Honolulu and San Francisco, other cities known for extreme housing costs, they're about three times the national average. Many of these affluent families reside in Manhattan and are able to afford opulent homes, pushing up average housing costs. In addition to housing, Manhattan has the highest miscellaneous living costs, including expenses like entertainment, alcohol and apparel. Data for the Cost of Living Index was collected from Jan. 1 through March 31, 2023.

A campaign aide to Representative George Santos who impersonated Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s former chief of staff was charged with wire fraud and identity theft in a federal indictment unsealed on Wednesday. Federal prosecutors said the aide, Samuel Miele, was behind “fraudulent fund-raising” emails and phone calls that were sent and made to more than a dozen potential campaign contributors. In his solicitations, Mr. Miele, 27, claimed to be a “high-ranking aide to a member of the House with leadership responsibilities,” the indictment said. When Mr. Miele successfully obtained campaign contributions, he received a 15 percent commission. He was arraigned on Wednesday morning in federal court in Brooklyn and pleaded not guilty, according to John Marzulli, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in the Eastern District of New York.
