  + stars: | 2023-08-08 | by ( Katia Hetter | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
CNN —As model Bella Hadid opens up about Lyme disease and other health issues, her ordeal brings up many questions. Lyme disease is transmitted through the bite of a particular tick, the black-legged tick (Ixodes scapularis and Ixodes pacificus). CNN: Is there a blood test one could take to see whether they have Lyme disease? False positives can also occur, with some other tickborne diseases and autoimmune illnesses triggering a positive result in the absence of Lyme disease. Wen: Without a vaccine, the best way to prevent Lyme disease is to prevent tick bites.

CNN —Top model Bella Hadid has explained that her absence from key fashion events this year is likely to continue, saying in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday that she will return to the catwalk when “ready,” after seeking treatment for ongoing health problems. From Bella Hadid/InstagramShe added that she was “okay,” “finally healthy” and “wouldn’t change anything for the world…it made who I am today.”Hadid has said previously that she has Lyme disease, a tick-borne disease that can commonly cause symptoms of fever, chills, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, neck stiffness, shortness of breath, headache, fatigue and a rash. While many comments on Hadid's post expressed excitement about the campaign, some slammed the brand for "perpetuating body dysmorphia to young women." "Skinny people exist and are allowed to be represented," one person wrote, while others referred to her diagnosis with Lyme disease. Victoria's Secret has majorly overhauled its brand in recent years following criticism of its "tone-deaf" image, including a controversial 2014 ad campaign that featured the slogan "the perfect body."

CNN —Attending the 2023 Tony Awards in New York Sunday night, Lupita Nyong’o arrived in timeless formalwear: a sharp black velvet dinner jacket and flared trousers. Nyong’o was wearing a custom breastplate cast and molded on her body by Misha Japanwala, a Pakistani artist and designer whose subversive sculptures are already increasingly attracting an impressive celebrity clientele. (An exhibition of Japanwala’s work is also currently on display at the Hannah Traore art gallery in New York.) Misha Japanwala's work "asks viewers to see the body exactly as it is," the artist writes on her website. Japanwala’s work, however, presents a very different picture.

It’s Happening Again: The Return of Low-Rise Jeans
  + stars: | 2023-03-17 | by ( Nancy Macdonell | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +1 min
Platform boots, hair clips, baguette bags, cargo pants—all have resurfaced in the last few years. And so, inevitably, low-rise jeans have joined this piquant mix, disseminated by influencers like Julia Fox, Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa, Paloma Elsesser and Kendall Jenner. Teenagers crushing on this look often just buy oversize jeans and let them hang from their hips. And therein lies a key difference between today’s iteration of the low-rise and its early 2000s predecessor. Today, said Alexia Elkaim, the founder of the Los Angeles brand Miaou, a loose silhouette rules.
When she turned around, her thong was fully visible, rising up from the ultra-low Eduardo Lucero jersey dress. Gillian Anderson's fashion choices for the 2001 Vanity Fair Oscars party have become an iconic early 2000s moment. Anderson told a panel in 2016 that the thong was a last-minute decision, not a planned style choice. But when I put it on, my pubic hairs poked through the dress,” Anderson told the moderator and the audience to raucous laughter. As for the fate of the Eduardo Lucero dress, Anderson donated it to a charity auction (sans thong) to benefit research into the genetic disorder Neurofibromatoses, according to her website.

LONDON, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Faux fur, oversized coats and hot water bottles dominated Burberry’s (BRBY.L) runway as Daniel Lee presented his vision for the British heritage label at London Fashion Week on Monday. English rose patterned tailoring sat alongside chunky rubber boots with an equestrian twist and cosy square toed shearling and faux fur shoes in the Autumn Winter 2023 collection. Monday's show follows the unveiling of Burberry's new logo: a sleeker elongated typeface and a campaign steeped in "Britishness". Lee previously created a buzz at Italy's Bottega Veneta with pillowy leather clutch handbags and slip-on heels.

Cool girls don't drink alcohol anymore
  + stars: | 2021-11-06 | by ( Allana Akhtar | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +5 min
Young women are using Instagram and TikTok to show others you can be both "cool" and sober. Alcohol alternative drink sales rose this year, on the heels of the "trendy" sober curious movement. Young women like Gomez are on a mission to prove it's "cool" not to drink, and ditching alcohol can even help women achieve self-care and empowerment. Plus, CBD-infused drinks — like ultimate cool girl Bella Hadid's Kin brand — promise a similar buzz without impairing your health or decision-making. Gomez's drink-less Instagram could have an aspirational effect: You can be a cool girl like her — if you don't drink.
