Outbound travel from China is set to receive a much-anticipated jolt as "Golden Week" bookings show changes in where and why Chinese people are traveling. While most Golden Week travelers are choosing mid-tier accommodations, growth for five-star hotels in Europe is almost three times higher in Europe than in Asia-Pacific, company data showed. Seeking quiet and concertsAs Chinese tourists continue to move beyond organized sightseeing tours abroad, more are seeking to celebrate Golden Week in off-the-beaten-path locations, especially in Asia and Europe, according to Trip.com's data. In Europe, bookings in Spain rose 260% to the city of Granada and 144% to Seville, according to Trip.com. Hong Kong is expected to welcome as many as 1.2 million mainland Chinese visitors during the coming Golden Week holiday, up 10% from last year, according to the city's Travel Industry Council.

Some of it had to do with the old joke being that Best Buy was nothing but an Amazon showroom. CEO Corie Barry is a no-nonsense heavyweight who mastered the supply chain for Best Buy during the pandemic. As the JPMorgan recent upgrade on Best Buy said, most investors don't realize how awful this period has been for Best Buy. It doesn't hurt, of course that Best Buy has a substantial dividend — 3.68%, down from 4% and 5% when we were buying it. We have watched Eaton and Dover go higher and that was without the rate cycle, just with the data center.

Of all Chinese internet stocks, one company has the "best risk-reward" for investors, Morgan Stanley says. Morgan Stanley raised its price target for Tencent from 450 Hong Kong dollars to 480 Hong Kong dollars ($57.80 to $61.70). Its shares have jumped since mid September, from about around 374 Hong Kong dollars to the current 424 Hong Kong dollars. As for its games unit, Morgan Stanley says the firm will enjoy "near-term catalysts," adding that there will be a "robust" pipeline, with its evergreen games set to continue netting growth. It estimates Tencent's games revenue growth could rise 13% and 10% year on year in the second half this year and in 2025, respectively.

The e-commerce giant's shares in Hong Kong are around 18% higher this week. Chinese tech stocks, including beaten-down names like Alibaba, rallied this week, hitting highs not seen in more than a year after China's central bank announced measures to stimulate the world's second-largest economy. Prior to the cuts, investors had been cautious on Chinese tech stocks like Alibaba and Meituan which are sensitive to the economy and consumer in China. FXI 1D mountain iShares China Large-Cap ETF The iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) rallied more than 6% following Tepper's comments, extending its gains from a winning session for Chinese and Hong Kong stocks. Tepper also noted the Chinese market is cheaper than U.S. equities. To be sure, rising geopolitical concerns including further tariffs between the U.S. and China have spooked many investors away from the China market.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise – The technology stock added almost 3% on the back of a Barclays upgrade to overweight from equal weight. General Motors , Ford Motor – The auto stocks fell following downgrades from Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas due to rising China competition and a weakening U.S. consumer. The analyst downgraded Ford Motor to equal weight from overweight, while General Motors was lowered to underweight from equal weight. Investors should stay away from overvalued U.S. stocks in 2025, fund manager Sean Peche has cautioned. The value investor at Ranmore Fund Management told CNBC's Silvia Amaro on CNBC Pro Talks about where he sees undervalued stocks and opportunities, especially now the U.S. Federal Reserve has cut interest rates. Pesh highlighted his fund's holdings, including Carrefour , Petrobras , Alibaba , and Baidu as value plays. Peche, who set up Ranmore Fund Management in 2008, also shared some of the worst trades of the year, as well as his most successful yet. Since inception, the fund has gained 10.9% on an annualized basis, slightly more than the 10.6% posted by its MSCI benchmark.

As things stand, Intel is the only US chip firm with plants, known as fabs, that are capable of making advanced semiconductors. TSMC is set to open a fab in Arizona next year, while reports suggest Sam Altman is seeking to raise funds to create chip manufacturing plants. Intel's customers in China include Alibaba and TikTok parent company ByteDance, which have been subject to scrutiny from the US government. "Intel's ties to key businesses in China are typical for a high-tech firm," he said. From property woes to sluggish economic data, China appears to be suffering from long Covid. Wall Street turns bullishBillionaire investors, including Appaloosa Management founder David Tepper and "Big Short" investor Michael Burry, recently revealed they are sticking to their China bets. Chinese regulators on Friday hit PwC's auditing unit in mainland China with a six-month business suspension and a record fine of 441 million yuan ($62 million) over the firm's audit of troubled property developer China Evergrande Group . "PwC has seriously eroded the basis of law and good faith, and damaged investors' interest," said the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) in a statement. PwC Zhong Tian, the registered accounting entity and the main onshore arm of PwC in China, was the country's top-earning auditor in 2022, according to the latest official data. "The cost is enormous in reputation, affecting the ability to get new business in China beyond the fine. PwC also deliberately excluded properties that Evergrande marked as "not allowed to visit" from audit samples, it added.

Chinese regulators have hit PwC’s auditing unit in mainland China with a six-month business suspension and a record fine of 441 million yuan ($62 million) over the firm’s audit of troubled property developer China Evergrande Group. “PwC has seriously eroded the basis of law and good faith, and damaged investors’ interest,” said the China Securities Regulatory Commission in a statement. PwC Zhong Tian, the registered accounting entity and the main onshore arm of PwC in China, was the country’s top-earning auditor in 2022, according to the latest official data. The ministry also imposed a fine of 116 million yuan ($16 million) on PwC Zhong Tian for its auditing failure of Hengda in 2018, according to an MOF statement. The CSRC said in a separate statement that it had confiscated PwC Zhong Tian’s revenue involved in the Evergrande case totalling 27.7 million yuan and fined the unit 297 million yuan.
