Maxwell was riding on the buggy following playing a round of golf ahead of their contest against the defending champions in Ahmedabad on Saturday, when he fell off the back. Cricket Australia's concussion protocols mean that Maxwell's condition will be monitored for a few days. I think it rattled everyone to be fair once it came to the conclusion there was a concussion and he was going to miss a game. Maxwell broke his leg in a freak accident at a birthday party in Melbourne last November and had also missed Australia's recent tour of South Africa with an ankle issue. Maxwell has been in superb form in the tournament and hit a 40-ball hundred against the Netherlands.

"Festival season demand is driving up wheat prices. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed the world's most populous nation will bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai on Saturday, Modi said hosting the event is "the age-old dream" for India. "India will leave no stone unturned in the preparation for the successful organisation of the Olympics in 2036 — this is the dream of the 140 crore (1.4 billion) Indians." Indonesia and Mexico have previously expressed official interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics, and last month Poland's President Andrzej Duda told the IOC it wants to stage the Games.

"I did think we could probably have taken on the Indian spinners just a little bit more...But again, they were building and building nicely. CNN —Fans packed inside the enormous Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India to watch India take on Pakistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on Saturday. And in front of a sea of blue India shirts, punctuated by flashes of green, orange and white as people waved India flags, the home team secured a thumping seven-wicket victory over Pakistan. Often described as one of the greatest sporting grudge matches in the world, an India-Pakistan cricket match is always bound up in the geopolitical faultlines that separate the two nations. The two teams had not played each other for seven years on Indian soil, and Pakistan had never defeated India at a men’s World Cup. Led by a rampaging Rohit Sharma, who starred with 86 off 63 balls, India responded with ease, reaching Pakistan’s total with 117 balls to spare.

Soured political relations between the Asian neighbours has further complicated the issue and the Pakistan Cricket Board has asked the governing International Cricket Council (ICC) to sort out visa delays for their fans and media travelling to India. "It didn't seem like an ICC event to be brutally honest," the former Australia coach said after Pakistan's seven-wicket loss. "I didn't hear 'Dil Dil Pakistan' coming through the microphones too often tonight," he said referring to the unofficial anthem for the country. Asked if it was right for a World Cup, Arthur said: "Look, I don't think I can comment on that just yet. But on Saturday, for the first time in seven years, these two rivals will play each other on Indian soil in the opening stages of Cricket World Cup, which India is hosting. As Pakistan’s cricket team arrived in India’s southern city of Hyderabad last month, they were met with rapturous applause from Indians waiting at the airport for the star players. Even the Pakistan cricket team were only able to obtain visas at the eleventh hour, after complaints of a delay in the process which the Pakistan Cricket Board said disrupted the team’s preparation for the event. Rises in food prices, which make up about half the consumer price index (CPI), continue to cool from recent peaks after the Indian government enacted a series of measures to boost supply. "Having said that, the persistent part of the food inflation problem remains there, which is cereals, pulses and spices, and I think the RBI can't do much about it anyway." Rising crude oil prices are also likely to keep inflation elevated in the world's third-largest oil importer. Oil prices rose around 3% on Monday to trade around $90 a barrel. Mental strength sets England apart at World Cup - Vaughan
  + stars: | 2023-10-05 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
After following up their 2019 ODI title with victory in the Twenty20 World Cup last year, winning in India would mark England's "greatest period of sporting domination", Vaughan wrote in a Telegraph column on Wednesday. "They can do it because England are very tough mentally. "They generally blow teams away but when it gets spicy – such as the 2019 World Cup final and the must-win games in that tournament – they are mentally stronger than the rest." Vaughan said England have the "perfect" batting line-up, highlighting the even spread of right- and left-handers in their top order, but was worried about how the bowlers will adapt to the conditions. England begin their World Cup defence later on Thursday when they take on New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad.

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra achieved that difficult feat with his dream World Cup debut against England on Thursday. The 23-year-old made an unbeaten 123 off 96 balls against the defending champions to help secure New Zealand's nine-wicket rout at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Ravindra was thrust into the limelight when stand-in skipper Tom Latham introduced him to bowl the 17th over of England's innings. That would have been improbable had Kane Williamson, New Zealand's regular captain, recovered from a knee injury. "He is unfit so luckily enough, I got an opportunity," Ravindra said of his experience of batting at number three.

Australia picked up their first 50-overs title in 1987 before winning three in a row from 1999 to 2007. "I think we had a really strong run in the early 2000s," Cummins told reporters on Wednesday. With their fiery attack, formidable batting and electric fielding, Australia set the benchmark in 50-overs cricket during that era but reigning champions England have replaced them as the dominant limited-overs side, also winning the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. Cummins, in his first World Cup as Australia captain, is one of several frontline players returning from injuries but the 30-year-old says Australia have what it takes to win in India -- an abundance of all-rounders. Babar's men were accorded a warm welcome in Hyderabad in what is their first tour of India since the T20 World Cup in 2016.
