Each episode will focus on one of those states — the distracted brain, the frightened brain, the nourished brain, etc. (While her paper was published in 2021 in Nature Scientific Reports, Mosconi has kept adding women’s brain scans to her database.) She adds that what happens during menopause can have implications for brain health in later years. “Active smoking is a huge ‘no’ for both menopause but also for brain health,” she said. “Physical activity is really supportive of hormonal health and brain health,” she noted.

Newsom's veto marked a rare but consequential setback in the movement against caste discrimination that had picked up momentum this year in North America. Had the bill been signed into law, California would have become the first U.S. state to explicitly ban caste discrimination. Here are some examples of recent policy steps across North America to fight caste discrimination:SEATTLEIn February, Seattle became the first U.S. city to outlaw caste discrimination after its local council voted to add caste to the city's anti-discrimination laws. FRESNOIn September, Fresno, California, became only the second U.S. city to ban caste discrimination after a unanimous city council vote. CALIFORNIAA bill to ban caste discrimination in California was introduced and authored by Democratic state Senator Aisha Wahab, an Afghan American, in March.

"Our strike is working, but we’re not there yet," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a livestreamed update on negotiations with the three automakers. Threatening to strike against GM's Arlington, Texas, plant that makes cash-cow SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade spurred GM to agree that EV battery factories would become union plants with UAW contracts, Fain said. GM is building three Ultium joint-venture battery plants with South Korea's LG Energy Solution (373220.KS). GM is building a fourth U.S. battery plant with Samsung SDI (006400.KS) in Indiana. Fain also said on Friday that the UAW could still strike against highly profitable pickup truck plants if progress stalls.

New York CNN —When the Miami Marlins bested the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Kim Ng became the first female general manager to lead a Major League Baseball team into the playoffs. And while the Marlins’ postseason was short lived — ending Wednesday night after a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies — it marked a major milestone for Ng. Her hiring followed 30 years of experience in the MLB, including with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of the winningest teams in the league. When she joined the Marlins, the team was facing serious struggles, including the loss of big-name players, low attendance and a limited budget. “Kim was the first person I called,” Jeter told the “Today” show in 2021 of Ng’s hiring.

United Airlines is ordering 110 additional Boeing and Airbus jetliners, locking in a supply of new planes into the next decade as strong demand and supply chain challenges make new delivery slots scarce. "We would not normally order jets this far out," United's chief commercial officer, Andrew Nocella, told reporters Tuesday. "Production lines, which are now regularly plagued by supply-chain disruptions and delivery delays, are also increasingly sold out for the entire decade." United added options for 40 more Airbus A321s. The airline said it expects an average of more than 145 seats per North American departure in 2027, up 40% from 2019.

Oil rigs are seen at Vaca Muerta shale oil and gas drilling, in the Patagonian province of Neuquen, Argentina January 21, 2019. On its first day as the front-month, Brent futures for December delivery settled $1.49, or 1.6%, lower at $90.71 a barrel, or down about 5% from where the November contract expired on Friday. Analysts said some traders took profits after crude prices rose nearly 30% to 10-month highs in the third quarter. Higher interest rates along with a stronger dollar, which makes oil more expensive for holders of other currencies, could dent oil demand.
