PHOENIX—Before the 2021 season, the Texas Rangers arrived at a conclusion that two years later seems impossible to fathom: that Adolis García wasn’t one of the 40 best players in their organization. The Rangers needed a spot for a free-agent pitcher named Mike Foltynewicz. They made room by removing García from the roster, allowing any other team that wanted him to have him for nothing. García went unclaimed and returned to the Rangers as a minor-leaguer. He was weeks away from celebrating his 28th birthday, ancient for a rookie in an industry dominated by superstars in their early 20s.

CNN —It appeared that Kimberly García of Team Peru had absolutely smashed a world record in the 20km racewalk event at the 2023 Pan American games – until it was revealed that the course had been measured incorrectly. Andy Lyons/Getty ImagesThe corporation acknowledged that it hired Mr. Ithurralde, but only after he was appointed for duty by the APA. The final classification of the results still stands, meaning that García and her fellow competitors are permitted to keep their medals. Ranking points used for qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics are handed out based on race times and finishing position – which the athletes who participated in Sunday’s race will now not receive. “I have never seen anything like that before,” Canada’s Evan Dunfee, who competed in the men’s race, told Reuters.

Problems began early on Sunday when it was discovered the route for the women's 20 kilometre race walk won by Peru's Kimberly Garcia was nearly three kilometres short. After hitting the pause button the United States gold medal machine was back in gear on Sunday adding seven to their total. The Americans opened the Games piling up 59 gold over the first five days but managed just two over the next three. The U.S. also won three of the six gold on offer at the canoe slalom while the other three went to Brazil. Brazil finished the day claiming the gold in women's handball beating their great rivals Argentina 30-18 and in women's basketball with a 50-40 win over Colombia.

SANTIAGO, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Peru's Kimberly Garcia won gold in the Pan American Games women's 20 kilometre race walk on Sunday but her time was voided after it was discovered the course was several kilometres short. Ecuador's Glenda Morejon took silver and Peru's Evelyn Inga bronze after completing a route which athletes believe was about 3km short. With women's event completed and the men's race about to get underway organisers delayed the start for over an hour to quickly remeasure the route to the official distance. Ecuador's Alexander Hurtado would win the men's gold in 1:19.20 just four seconds ahead of world championship bronze medallist Caio Bonfim of Brazil. "The expert commissioned by APA, Mr. Marcelo Ithurralde, did not take accurate measurements of the route the athletes took during the race.

The D-backs and Texas Rangers have been great with the leather all season long. So far in the World Series, that trend is continuing. The D-backs and Rangers combined for zero errors over the first two games of the Fall Classic, which is the first time that's happened since 2018. This is the first World Series since 1993 — and fifth ever — that will feature all of its games on artifical turf. Arizona stole five bases in the first two games of the series, including four in Game 1.

Trigg-Jones said she applied for funding from grant groups, venture capital funds and investors, but most of them denied her. Late last month, a federal appeals court granted the Alliance’s motion to temporarily block the Fearless Fund from awarding grants exclusively to Black women entrepreneurs. Black business leaders told CNN the lawsuits, if successful, could stand to undo decades of progress toward leveling the playing field for Black and brown people in the workplace and small business sector. According to a 2019 report from American Express, Black women are the fastest growing demographic of entrepreneurs in the country. Texas Rangers fans are hoping the slugger Adolis Garcia can blast the franchise to its first World Series title. Arizona supporters know the Diamondbacks need to continue being greedy on the basepaths if they’re to capture a second championship. More than 70.7 million people attended a regular-season game, a nearly 10 percent increase over last season. That was the highest percentage of growth in 30 years, and the league recorded record revenue in merchandise and sponsorship sales. Major League Baseball estimates that the rule changes resulted in a $500 million increase in its revenue.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ketel Marte has the longest hitting streak in postseason history at 18 games after a two-run single in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the World Series. Marte already had the MLB record for the longest hitting streak to start a postseason career at 17 games. The Game 2 hit sent him past Derek Jerek and Hank Bauer of the New York Yankees and Boston's Manny Ramirez for the longest overall streak. After the single, Marte was hitting .333 with two home runs and 11 RBIs this postseason. The Cuban All-Star had homered in five consecutive postseason games and driven in a run in seven straight.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Paul Sewald watched the end of his first World Series game in the Arizona Diamondbacks clubhouse and the trainer's room, not from the center of a celebration on the mound as he had imagined. Arizona won that thrilling classic in seven games, but now the team's last three World Series losses have all followed tying home runs in the ninth. The Diamondbacks' bullpen entered Friday with a 2.94 ERA this postseason and hadn't blown a save since the regular season. In October, Pemex received 55.9 billion pesos ($3.2 billion) from the government to strengthen its financial position, accounts show. Separately, Pemex received 71.7 billion pesos over the quarter for debt amortizations. Instead of focusing so much on Pemex, Mexico could have made more of private-sector investment, boosting renewable electricity output and reducing fossil fuel reliance, he said. Republicans didn’t have a speaker for 40 years until Newt Gingrich finally reclaimed the gavel for the party in 1995 after decades in the wilderness. But hanging on to it has proved extremely challenging for Republicans in the years since — a potential object lesson for incoming Speaker Mike Johnson. From Newt Gingrich to John A. Boehner to Kevin McCarthy and points in between, Republican speakers and speaker candidates have encountered significant turbulence from their own colleagues. The result has been internal revolts of the sort that led to Mr. Johnson’s ascent from practically nowhere to the highest office in Congress on Wednesday. “We’ve got a history of displacing speakers now that in my opinion is a cultural challenge that we need to address,” said Representative Mike Garcia, Republican of California.

Hours after the Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros on Monday night to advance to the World Series, Adolis García, the Rangers right fielder, posted 29 shushing-face emojis on X, the social platform once known as Twitter. It was a message to the Astros fans who had booed him during his at-bats. Dozens of Rangers fans immediately chimed in. Sports reporters shared the post, and hundreds of other observations about the Rangers’ victory quickly followed. Since Elon Musk bought Twitter last year, many users have abandoned the platform, spurred by a number of unpopular changes.
