CNN —First, Stanley cups were all over social media because so many people wanted them. Videos on social media sites such as TikTok show people breaking out a lead testing kit and trying it on their Stanley cups and other travel flasks. And Stanley cups are everywhere. Stanley cups are in the hands of beauty bloggers, the cars of parents at school pickup, and even on the Christmas lists of many kids this past year. The main source of lead exposure in the United States comes from inhaling dust or eating particles contaminated by paint chips.

On social media, Stanley collectors show off shelves of their rainbow-hued, stainless steel treasures or gush over stickers and silicone doohickies to accessorize their favorite cups. It’s no secret that good marketing — largely to women, through social media — has been behind the cups’ recent surge in popularity. The Stanley cup hype has reached new heights with its limited edition Valentine's Day drop at Target. AdvertisementStanley has just released its limited edition Valentine's Day cups — the Galentine's Day collection — and customers are stampeding Target stores to get their own. Other TikTokers captured the lines — reminiscent of Black Friday — outside several Target stores in the early morning hours before the cups were unveiled. But the chaos captured in these viral videos could also be, in part, a result of how profitable the resale market for them has become — especially for limited edition colors of its largest tumblers. Within days of its release, listings on eBay and Poshmark showed the red and pink cups going for over $100.

Target followed that pattern in the second quarter. E-commerce sales rose 24% for Walmart U.S. in the second quarter. Both retailers pointed to curbside pickup as a major driver of online sales — a key differentiator from competitor Amazon. Walmart chalked up online sales gains to store pickup and delivery, as well as more advertising revenue. Sales of frequency categories, such as food and beauty items, weren't enough to offset weaker discretionary sales at the retailer.

TikTok is hiring staffers to sell pre-owned luxury items like bags and collectibles like sneakers. Its investment in pre-owned goods shows how far the company's "everything store" ambitions extend. It's hiring a "Head of Pre-Owned Luxury" operation lead in Seattle to develop a go-to-market strategy and build a team of sellers focused on pre-owned luxury items. TikTok's plan to invest more in pre-owned luxury sales arrives as some TikTok Shop merchants have already been testing selling pre-owned luxury goods like jewelry, watches, and Chanel handbags, The Fashion Law reported. Even outside the hottest US states, heat that delivery workers aren't used to can be dangerous. Several delivery driver deaths have triggered changes. In recent years, delivery drivers reporting heat-related illnesses were second only to construction workers, according to OSHA statistics reported by E&E News. The 2022 death of 24-year-old Esteban Chavez, a UPS driver in Southern California, made national headlines. But his death came less than a year before the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents UPS workers, began re-negotiating its contract with UPS.

Bailey runs an Etsy store that makes about $14,000 a month selling digital tumbler designs. So I quit my job and started an Etsy store called Bailey Designed Co., where I sell custom tumbler designs. In January 2022, I pivoted from print-on-demand products to digital productsI was faced with pandemic supply-chain issues, and I also saw a lot of successful sellers on Etsy who were selling just digital designs. In January, I started my own online courses for people who want to sell digital products without a design background. AI has helped me earn more because it's increased my productivity and volume of designs — and more volume equals more sales.

CNN —Stocks and consumer sentiment are rising in tandem after slumping last year, in another sign of growing optimism that the economy could dodge a recession. Consumer sentiment tracked by the University of Michigan jumped 13% in July, notching its second consecutive month of improvement. That comes after stocks and consumer sentiment tumbled in 2022 as sticky inflation and the Federal Reserve’s aggressive pace of interest rate hikes spurred fears that the US economy would tip into a recession. “Consumer sentiment reached levels consistent with the lows of some past recessions last summer,” wrote Lori Calvasina, head of US equity strategy at RBC Capital Markets. Still, consumer sentiment could decline if more people lose their jobs, paychecks and spending power.

Earlier this year while in Madrid, I fell prey to what the Spanish call la hora del vermut, the vermouth hour, a break in the day for a glass, generally before eating. Once you have ordered, servers arrive with a bottle of Spanish vermouth, which they will pour sometimes into tall Collins glasses, other times squat tumblers, but always filled with ice and garnished with an orange slice. The vermouth usually comes with a nosh, like a small bowl of green olives and a plate of picos, stubby little breadsticks. The vermouth hour is both a joyous custom to adopt and a bit of a revelation. I’ve always liked vermouth as an occasional aperitif, but to make a daily habit of it is to taste a stunning variety of possibilities.

When Brigette Ramirez and her family drove to Houston for a Taylor Swift concert, she made a very important pit stop. Three, actually: T.J. Maxx, T.J. Maxx and T.J. Maxx. Her plan was to add them to tap water, pour the concoction into a Stanley tumbler, film herself doing it and (hopefully) go viral on TikTok. In this latest chapter of America’s obsession with hydration, the thirsty are zhuzhing up tap water for all to see on TikTok under the banner of #WaterTok. They show off elaborately organized “water bars” stocked with sugar-free syrups, low-calorie powders flavored like Skittles and Nerds candy, and brightly colored tumblers.
When federal regulators stepped in to guarantee deposits at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank late Sunday (more on that here), the goal was simple: Ease the public concerns and calm the markets. Silicon Valley Bank was shut down by regulators on Friday. So about that auction... SVB Financial Group, the parent company of Silicon Valley Bank, is still looking for a buyer. Silicon Valley Bank's UK arm was sold to HSBC for roughly $1 (no, I'm not missing any zeros). Silicon Valley Bank died so interest-rate hikes would stop.
