Swiss banking titan UBS on Wednesday posted a large profit beat, after completing its first wave of client migrations following its integration of collapsed domestic rival Credit Suisse. Net profit attributable to shareholders came in at $1.43 billion, compared with a mean forecast of $667.5 million in a LSEG poll of analysts. UBS defends it is not "too big to fail." UBS still faces the lofty tasks of integrating its IT system with that of Credit Suisse, along with migrating clients — with the latter transition set to take around 18 months, Reuters reported earlier this month. 19-year-old Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi died after a crash during a training session in northern Italy, the country's defense ministry announced on Tuesday. The "promising Italian skier" fell while skiing on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, a valley in northern Italy’s South Tyrol province, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation said in a statement. "The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) extends its deepest condolences following the tragic loss of Matilde Lorenzi," they said. The striking fossil is a newly identified species of arthropod, a distant relative of modern-day horseshoe crabs, scorpions, and spiders, that slightly resembles a modern-day shrimp. Named Lomankus edgecombei, the arthropod is a remarkably bright golden color because it’s preserved in three dimensions by iron pyrite — a mineral better known as fool’s gold. NEW DELHI, India— Living in a pollution-free environment is a fundamental right, India’s Supreme Court said Wednesday as it urged authorities to address deteriorating air quality in the north of the country. Swiss group IQAir rated Delhi the world’s most polluted city in its live rankings. The Supreme Court pulled up the governments of both states for taking “selective action” against stubble burning, saying penal provisions were not being properly implemented. Recognizing this, the court on Wednesday directed the federal government and the governments of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and the western state of Rajasthan to submit compliance reports. In Pakistan’s most populous province of Punjab, authorities have changed school timings and suspended outdoor activities because of pollution.

Cryptocurrency bitcoin hit a three-month high in early Asia trading on Monday and the dollar looked set to extend its gains in markets counting down to the U.S. presidential election in two weeks. Bitcoin got a lift from Trump's improving prospects since his administration is seen as taking a softer line on cryptocurrency regulation. The clearest way to express the Trump tariff risk was to be long dollars versus the euro, Swiss franc and Mexican peso , he said. Brad Bechtel, global head of FX at Jefferies, also noted that rising real interest rates were helping the dollar along, particularly against those three currencies. "We expect this trend to continue straight into the election and if Trump wins, likely well after the election as well," Bechtel wrote.
