During a multi-day trip to West Virginia's capital this week, the 76-year-old expressed growing frustration with the polarized U.S. two-party system. He managed to win reelection in 2018 in one of former President Donald Trump's most loyal states as the last of his party to hold statewide office in now-deep red West Virginia. Still, Justice has a high approval rating in West Virginia, making him a formidable opponent for any candidate. Robert Rupp, a retired political history professor at West Virginia Wesleyan, called Manchin one of the most successful campaigners in recent state history because of his personal relationships with constituents.

Earlier this week an estimated 75,000 people marched in New York City calling for an end to fossil fuels. Ditching fossil fuels encompasses a lot. Leaders at the forefront of this change will need to be brave. Quite simply, as Ms. Millet suggests, we need to embrace this change.

Darwin made lists of “marry” and “not marry” scenarios, precisely as one would expect from a great scientist. At the bottom of the page is scrawled, “Marry — Marry — Marry Q.E.D.” Which is Latin for “that which was to be demonstrated,” as if he had demonstrated anything except his own susceptibility to love. Future married you will probably be happy, but he or she is a different person. That said, most married people are thankful to their past single selves for deciding to wed. (I certainly am.) On average, though, I think children grow up best in intact, two-parent households, and married parents are more likely to stay together than cohabiting unmarried ones.

A Pew Research Center analysis highlights the degree to which jobs, industries, and workers might be exposed to AI. More exposure for jobs means AI "can either perform their most important activities entirely or help with them" per the report. This was used to figure out the degree in which different kinds of activities and jobs are exposed to artificial intelligence. Overall, almost a quarter of US workers were in the least exposed jobs in 2022 per the report. That's slightly higher than the 19% of workers in jobs that are considered most exposed to AI.

Reverse discrimination lawsuits are common, but there is little court precedent on the legality of whole diversity programs. The Supreme Court in a 1979 ruling upheld a chemical company's policy that at least half of its trainees for skilled craft positions be Black. By calling out specific admissions policies, such as giving "pluses" to minority students, the court's decision is likely to embolden critics who claim workforce diversity programs similarly give unfair advantages to certain groups. The Pfizer case was brought by Do No Harm, a conservative activist group that has challenged several diversity programs in healthcare. Whatever the provenance of the two drones that approached the Kremlin early Wednesday morning, one thing was clear: The Russian government wanted the world to know about them. The Kremlin made a deliberate choice to quickly make public what it claimed was a drone attack aimed at assassinating President Vladimir V. Putin. It published an unusual, five-paragraph statement on its website that named the Ukrainian government as the perpetrator and asserted the right to retaliate against Kyiv. The Kremlin’s messaging diverged significantly from its response to previous episodes involving attacks on Russia or Russian-occupied territory.
