CNN —President Joe Biden’s climate law is on the chopping block as Republicans prepare to have full control in Washington. But it’s not just Democrats gearing up to protect the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy policies. In other words, if Republicans successfully repeal Biden’s climate and clean energy law, their districts stand to lose the most. Conservative groups and companies who are using the clean energy tax credits are already starting to lobby lawmakers to save them. “To demonstrate that these tax credits are really a net profit for the economy, that really is the name of the game.”

I was in the White House before. The Bidens have similarly spent significant time at the family’s Delaware homes, though the White House has been both Joe and Jill Biden’s primary residence on weekdays for the past four years. They’ve pressed forward even though a majority of Americans still see the Capitol rioters as responsible for an attack against democracy, according to the most recent polling. The most pressing concerns are for convicted rioters required to report to prison before Trump’s inauguration in January, and for rioters with sentencing hearings coming up, according to a source familiar with the discussions. “They’re thrilled with the election, but there’s a lot of uncertainty from their perspective,” the source told CNN. For convicted rioters already serving prison sentences, there’s even less hope to get them out based on Trump’s campaign rhetoric, the source said. She later told CNN that her strategy guide has already been sent to Trump and the Republican National Committee.

Analysts said tariffs on cars imported from Mexico would have dire consequences for US automakers. Tesla announced in March 2023 that it was planning to build its seventh gigafactory near the industrial hub of Monterrey, Mexico. Trump vowed to clamp down on automakers building cars in Mexico on the campaign trail, and the prospect of new tariffs could force US automakers such as Tesla to make some hard choices about operational or planned factories in Mexico. Analysts told BI that the tariffs floated by Trump would deter automakers such as Tesla from investing in Mexico. Other automakers have expanded their presence in Mexico, despite the uncertainty of the election and the prospect of tariffs under a second Trump term.

CNN —President-elect Donald Trump could be in a position to select the government’s top ethics czar when he assumes office in January – after a key ally in the Senate blocked President Joe Biden’s pick to head the Office of Government Ethics. The federal agency is charged with monitoring compliance with ethics laws that are aimed at preventing corruption. Walter Shaub, the OGE director when Trump first took office in 2017, clashed repeatedly with the then-president at the start of Trump’s first term. Among other things, he openly criticized Trump for not relinquishing ownership of his real estate and licensing empire. The previous OGE director, Trump appointee Emory Rounds, left the position in July 2023.

Former President Donald Trump has won the critical swing state of Michigan, NBC News projects, netting the Republican 15 Electoral College votes over Vice President Kamala Harris. Michigan has been one of the nation’s most hotly contested battlegrounds since it helped Trump pull off a surprise victory in 2016. No Democrat has won the White House without Michigan since Jimmy Carter in 1976. Hillary Clinton in 2016 became the first Democratic presidential nominee to lose Michigan in decades, when Trump edged her out by just 10,704 votes. Trump’s victory this year will likely ensure that the state remains a key battleground going forward.
