CNN —Texas’ abortion restrictions – some of the strictest in the country – may be fueling a sudden spike in infant mortality as women are forced to carry nonviable pregnancies to term. The increase in deaths could partly be explained by the fact that more babies are being born in Texas. But multiple obstetrician-gynecologists who focus on high-risk pregnancies told CNN that Texas’ strict abortion laws likely contributed to the uptick in infant deaths. Plaintiffs Anna Zargarian, Lauren Miller, Lauren Hall, and Amanda Zurawski at the Texas State Capitol after filing a lawsuit on behalf of Texans harmed by the state's abortion ban on March 7 in Austin, Texas. The challenges unique to the queer community are present year-round. "David and I like to say that 80% of personal finance is the same for everybody. That's the finance in personal finance," he says. Here are three unique financial challenges queer people face, and how LGBTQ-focused financial planners say they can overcome them.

One person may represent a danger on the roads at age 65, while another may be perfectly fine at age 85. Upgrades can help them stay safe, including technologies to keep drivers from drifting out a lane, backup cameras and various other detection systems. Special licensing requirements for elderly drivers can help screen out problems with vision and cognition. Some states require more frequent renewal for older drivers, or demand regular vision checks, or prohibit online renewals altogether. For a few hundred dollars a year, you could get a $1 million policy that should let everyone sleep better at night – both you, and your parents.

The National Education Union (NEU), which is organising the teachers' strikes, has asked for an above-inflation pay award funded fully by the government, so that schools can also cover other costs, from stationery to textbooks. With inflation reaching double digits last year, teachers have seen a 23% real-terms pay cut since 2010, the union says. Heighington, who teaches music, said more than a third of experienced full-time teachers and teaching staff had left his school last year. Educators say schools having to pay teachers' salaries from their own pocket has left classrooms starved of money for textbooks, IT upgrades and school trips. Reports say teachers at the elite Winchester College in southern England, where Sunak attended school and was a head boy, are among those striking on Wednesday.

Henry Nicholls | Reuterswatch nowSunak's education proposals would only affect pupils in England. Education is a devolved issue, with Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish authorities managing their own systems. The prime minister is expected to say in his Wednesday speech that the issue of mandatory math is "personal" for him. A 2017 tax law capped SALT deductions at $10,000The House Ways and Means Committee's release of six years of Trump's tax returns follows a lengthy fight over making them public. New state rules provide a SALT workaroundHowever, the income tax returns don't provide the full picture, experts said. Here's why: Many states issued rules after 2017 that offer a workaround to certain business owners impacted by the $10,000 SALT cap. The workarounds would apply to business income Trump derived from partnerships, S corporations and some LLCs after 2017. While it's likely Trump leveraged these tax rules, it's impossible to know without additional information like business tax returns if he did and the extent to which he may have benefited, experts said.
In recent years the global plastic trade has shrunk amid new controls by rich and developing countries alike. U.S. plastic waste exports to Asia fell to 330 million pounds in 2021, according to government data, half their 2017 level. But even these reduced volumes, environmental groups charge, can overwhelm developing countries that lack the facilities to manage them. In May, city staff asked to divert some of Palo Alto’s waste streams to facilities in Louisiana and Southern California. The second lesson, City Manager Ed Shikada said, is that Palo Alto can’t transform the global recycling system alone.
WASHINGTON, Nov 9 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve's fight to lower inflation "may lead to a downturn" as the central bank's interest rate increases are "challenged" by still-high consumer savings, still-tight labor markets and ongoing supply problems, Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin said on Wednesday. In the meantime, even as some parts of the economy operate more normally, others remain changed by the pandemic in ways that make the Fed's inflation fight harder. "If we back off for fear of a downturn, inflation comes back even stronger and requires even more restraint," he said. Barkin's prepared remarks did not indicate where he thinks that "terminal" level may rest, but made clear the Fed would succeed in its inflation fight. "We are doing what it takes to get inflation back to our 2% target," Barkin said.
Police arrested three Connecticut adults last week and charged each of them with more than 100 counts of animal cruelty after they were found hoarding what authorities estimate were more than 200 cats. A dozen cats had to be taken for emergency vet care, NBC Connecticut reported at the time, adding that most also had fleas. Through a subsequent investigation, authorities proved the family owned at least 106 of the cats, using records from veterinarians and statements from the family, Fitzgerald said. The cats have since been distributed to shelters throughout the state, and some have been adopted, according to Fitzgerald. The house where they were found has since been condemned, NBC Connecticut reported.

Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murthy, celebrating the British Asian Trust at the British Museum on February 2022. But despite his attempts to portray a down-to-earth image, the British public has had numerous reminders that Sunak has a very different experience with money than most people. His supporters, including British chancellor Jeremy Hunt, argue that Sunak's experience in finance and at the treasury make him the right man for the job.
The wealth of Sunak's family puts him above the previous richest prime minister, who according to the Guineas Book of World Records was Edward Stanley. "Rishi Sunak's words will do nothing to reassure struggling people worried sick about the winter ahead," leader of the pro-EU Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said, calling Sunak "out-of touch". The couple faced criticism and public anger in April over Murthy's "non-domiciled" tax status which meant she did not pay tax in Britain on her earnings abroad. "This is the same Rishi Sunak who as Chancellor failed to grow the economy, failed to get a grip on inflation, and failed to help families with the Tory cost of living crisis," Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner said in statement on Monday. "And it's the same Rishi Sunak whose family avoided paying tax in this country before he put up taxes on everyone else."

What binds them, despite different nationalities, immigration stories, and languages, are warehouse jobs. As Columbus' warehouse development begins encroaching into residential areas, a consensus is gathering here — as it has elsewhere — that warehouses make for poor neighbors. After careful consideration, Tara and Justin chose to terminate the pregnancy, both to protect Tara's life and to prevent Griffyn from suffering. In her email, Whitmarsh said that protections for the mother are "extremely clear" under Ohio law and that "the life of the mother is protected by the law undeniably." She explained that she then had "an abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance."
