I was on board Qatar Airways' first flight featuring Elon Musk's Starlink internet. AdvertisementQatar Airways launched its first flight featuring Elon Musk's Starlink WiFi on Tuesday — and Business Insider was invited to the event. I was flying in the QSuite business class for this media event, but Starlink WiFi is free for passengers in every cabin. By contrast, the Starlink WiFi was as high as 215 megabits — faster than most home internet speeds. Crucially, there's almost no downtime as Starlink operates gate-to-gate, while standard inflight WiFi is only activated at cruising altitude.

AdvertisementNorway wants to stop children under 15 from using social media, proposing one of the world's toughest bans. The Scandinavian nation already restricts social media more than most, with a ban for under-13s. The Norwegian prime minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, told the Norwegian tabloid VG that new regulation would indeed be "an uphill battle." The Norwegian Media Authority in August estimated that 53% of nine-year-olds, 58% of 10-year-olds, and 72% of 11-year-olds use social media. Anglero said it's common for Oslo families to use social media, whether to coordinate children's sports teams or just to chat.

Karnal, India CNN —The sun blisters the arid ground in Karnal, a district in India’s northern Haryana state, where empty houses stand testament to an acute problem that’s driving some residents to take unimaginable risks. Ankit Chaudhary says he paid an agent to help him take the 'donkey route' into the US but lost his money. His account matched that of another smuggling agent CNN spoke to in Haryana. But even if Trump wins the November election, smugglers CNN spoke to in India predict an eventual revival of the “donkey” route. “In my opinion the donkey route will never completely stop,” said the first agent.

New York CNN —Meta fired around two dozen employees from its Los Angeles office for misusing company meal credits for things like laundry detergent, wine glasses and acne treatment pads, a source familiar with the company confirmed to CNN. Many of the social media giant’s corporate offices feature elaborate food services to provide employees with meals as a perk. Meta’s two-year-old office near New York City’s Penn Station, for example, features a cafeteria that feels like an upscale food court, with various stalls all free for staff. An internal investigation found that some LA-based employees used the meal funds to purchase things other than food instead, or had meals delivered to their homes, the source said. Meta’s median total annual compensation for individual employees (other than CEO Mark Zuckerberg) is $379,050, the company said in a regulatory filing earlier this year.

All four drugs are in a class of wildly popular weight loss drugs known as GLP-1s. In the United Kingdom, authorities last year seized hundreds of counterfeit Ozempic pens — insulin pens that had been relabeled as Ozempic. Counterfeit weight loss drugs have serious health risks, according to the pharmaceutical companies and federal officials. Counterfeiters are already trying to cash in on a weight loss drug that the company hasn't even put on the market yet: retatrutide. But it's also one of the epicenters of the lucrative counterfeit drug trade, according to U.S. authorities who track counterfeit drugs.

So where are Gen Z's tech founders? Gen Z founders and would-be founders are stepping into a vastly different tech world from that of their predecessors — a world where launching a unicorn is far more difficult, and publicly scrutinized, than it was for the garage-band generation of Jobs and Gates. Gen Z is coming of age in an era when the same Big Tech companies are diffuse and dominant. In other words, millennial founders ran so that Gen Z founders could walk. Perhaps we won't see Gen Z founders standing before a crowd and unveiling their latest shiny products anytime soon.

MEXICO CITY — The mayor of the capital of Mexico’s violence-plagued state of Guerrero was killed on Sunday less than a week after he took office, the state’s governor confirmed. Alejandro Arcos was killed just six days after he took office as mayor of the city of Chilpancingo, a city of around 280,000 people in southwestern Mexico. Arcos' death comes just three days after the new city government’s secretary, Francisco Tapia, was shot to death. At least six candidates for public office were killed in the state in the run-up to Mexico's June 2 elections. Arcos' social media posts show the mayor in recent days had been supervising disaster relief efforts following the impact of Hurricane John last month, which caused severe flooding in beach resort Acapulco and surrounding towns.

British financial technology firm Revolut on Thursday criticized Facebook parent company Meta over its approach to tackling fraud, saying the U.S. tech giant should directly compensate people who fall victim to scams via its social media platforms. In a statement, Woody Malouf, Revolut's head of financial crime, said that Meta's plans to tackle financial fraud on its platforms amount to "baby steps, when what the industry really needs is giant leaps forward." "These platforms share no responsibility in reimbursing victims, and so they have no incentive to do anything about it. Britain's Payments System Regulator had previously recommended a £415,000 maximum compensation amount for fraud victims, but backed down following backlash from banks and payment firms.
