The sexiest new hotels for 2024
  + stars: | 2024-01-05 | by ( Julia Buckley | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +23 min
This list tries to do just that – spotlight the hotels opening (or reopening, as one of them is) in 2024 that make us want to visit for the hotel alone. Properties with a little bit of oomph – the sexy hotels of 2024, as we like to call them. For spring 2024, Costa Rica’s on the cards, with this beachfront hotel at surfer central Santa Teresa, on the Pacific Coast. Existing ones have been refurbished, and new pool villas, suites and bungalows have been added to the mix. Pool villas are cute cabins with patio doors opening on the open-to-the-elements plunge pools, while the bungalows will be wood-clad, tropical spaces.

At the same time, Ms. Haley earned a new lift from the super PAC, called Independents Moving the Needle. It said it would initially focus on New Hampshire, where Republican voters are more moderate than in many other states — and, crucially, where voters who are not registered with a party can choose to participate in the Republican or Democratic primary race. After the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 23, the group will turn to South Carolina — Ms. Haley’s home state — and to “selected Super Tuesday states with open primaries,” according to a memo shared with The New York Times. “We all believe that Nikki Haley is an outstanding leader,” the memo says. “She has by far the best electability of any Republican presidential candidate in 2024.

Sima Sistani, the 44-year-old CEO of WeightWatchers, is aware of this, and she recognized WeightWatchers had to evolve – or else. She also landed a massive deal to buy a telehealth business that can issue virtual prescriptions to patients for these weight loss drugs. Semaglutide was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to treat type 2 diabetes as Ozempic, but it was also used off-label for weight loss. Some longtime users of the program feel betrayed by the pivot away from in-person meetings and toward medication-based solutions. “Sadly, they don’t want to do the work,” she said, of tracking food or exercising to achieve weight loss goals.

Cutting back on alcohol can be tough, especially if you enjoy going out with friends. After 22 years at his award-winning bar in Washington, D.C., Derek Brown decided that it was time to give up alcohol and shift to mindful drinking. Mindful drinking is an individual choice "to drink or not to drink alcohol in accordance with your goals, health or otherwise," says Brown, now a wellness coach and founder of Positive Damage Inc. Or it can mean choosing to not drink alcohol at all. To set himself up for success, Brown focused on the rate at which he was drinking.

The 1976 book “The Hite Report” was a bestseller from the beginning. And it made its author, Shere Hite, a deeply polarizing public figure. But cultural memory can be short, especially when it comes to pioneering feminists — even ones who have sold 50 million books. “We love Shere Hite!” Newnham recalled Johnson and her producing partner Ro Donnelly responding. Seeing Hite walk out of an interview was not uncommon, especially after the publication of “The Hite Report on Male Sexuality” in 1981, which proved even more divisive.

Persistent inflationary pressures have led to depressed levels of consumer spending all year, according to Bank of America. Consumers are still spending — in fact, they're spending more than they are earning — as employment levels and hourly wage growth remain fairly strong . Some analysts see an opportunity to pick up shares of battered-down retail stocks. According to Barclay's Yih, spending levels "almost have to be worse" next year. LPL's Roach similarly expects consumers spending to hit a roadblock in the coming months.

Deborah Golden has a pretty unique job: As consulting firm Deloitte's chief innovation officer, she gets to "solve really hard problems," she says. And with so much going on, it can be easy to get stuck on how to solve those problems. One good way to get the juices flowing is to step away from your screen. She gives the example of a recent meeting she had in which she and a colleague were tackling problems in the pharmaceutical industry. When they got back, they rushed to their computers to write down the three points they'd come up with.

Take for instance, Suneel Gupta, who felt more burnt out than ever after exceeding his expectations by selling his wellness company for nearly $20 million in 2016. You can think of your center as your purpose that keeps you grounded even in moments of uncertainty; it's what's referred to in Hinduism as "dharma." Here are eight practices you can implement in your life to ground yourself and re-align with your purpose when you're experiencing burnout.
