Read previewA bizarre Willy Wonka-inspired immersive event has been attracting attention for all the wrong reasons this week. Some of the actors hired for the event have been speaking out with their suspicions that AI played a role in devising the chaotic script. Paul Connell, an actor and stand-up comedian hired to play Willy Wonka at the event in Glasgow, Scotland, told the Independent the script provided was "15 pages of AI-generated gibberish" and required him to say "mad things." Kirsty Paterson, who played an Oompla-Loompa at the event, also suspected the script might have had a helping hand from AI. Jenny Fogarty, another actor hired for the event, told the Daily Mail she and her partner thought AI had written the content after they read the strangely written stage directions.

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to four critically endangered species of vulture, and in South Africa, a non-profit conservation and rehabilitation group called VulPro is working to protect these fascinating birds. The shutdowns of 2020 created a perfect storm for the housing market — and supercharged the clash between Wall Street and regular homebuyers. Unique, high quality data, mainly scraped from the web, is vital to the performance of AI models. AdvertisementAdvertisementMore and more companies are trying to avoid having their data freely scraped and saved by web crawlers working for the benefit of AI models. Last month, OpenAI last revealed its own crawler, GPTBot, saying it would respect robots.txt, a decades-old method through which a website can tell a web crawler to ignore it. Many more companies are now also blocking CCBot, a web crawler used by Common Crawl. In a survey of jobs Americans would most like to see replaced by robots, the umpire would surely rank near the top. (The MLB league official tells me that legalized gambling has not been a factor in implementing ABS.) Frustratingly, the subjective has infiltrated what initially felt like a technological problem: What does the perfect strike zone even look like anyway? The MLB league official agrees, telling me the Jetson Robot Home Plate Ump is not in their plans. "Growing up, my parents would go, 'Oh, the umpire's strike zone was small!'

The payout is expected to be a significant win for Burford Capital , which funded the lawsuit brought by YPF's minority shareholders, Petersen Energia Inversora and Eton Park Capital Management. Investment bank Jefferies estimates Burford Capital is entitled to around $6.3 billion from the verdict, approximately twice the company's market capitalization. Jefferies analysts led by Julian Roberts said shares of Burford have "further to go" after the stock jumped by more than 6% on Friday alone. The $16 billion payout includes around $8.4 billion in damages plus about $7.6 billion in 8% pre-judgment interest since the April 2012 seizure date determined by the judge. "We will continue to defend energy sovereignty and our state company YPF against vulture funds," Cerruti said.
