MANILA, Philippines — Police in the Philippines said Wednesday that they had arrested three suspects in the kidnapping of an American in the country’s south and that they believe the victim, who was shot in the leg during the abduction, is still alive. Two of the suspects in the Oct. 17 kidnapping of Elliot Onil Eastman, 26, in Sibuco town in Zamboanga del Norte province surrendered separately and pointed to a third suspect, who was arrested in Sibuco, police officials said. Three other suspects, who may be holding Eastman, have been identified, police said, adding that more people could be involved. He has been posting Facebook videos of his life in Sibuco, a remote and poor coastal town, where the suspects spotted him, Galvez said. The Abu Sayyaf group had targeted American and other Western tourists and religious missionaries, most of whom were freed after ransoms were paid.

Census data released on October 17 indicates that New York recorded the highest rate of people moving out of all 50 states. Business Insider calculated each state's net moving rate by comparing the number of people who moved into and out of each state per 1,000 people. Groups in favor of the ballot measure are making a final push as early voting is underway, with hundreds of thousands of ballots already cast. While some states, like California and Vermont, passed abortion rights ballot measures by well over 60%, in other states, such as Michigan and Ohio, they passed by about 56%. Jeanette Nuñez, who opposes the ballot measure, accused the abortion rights ads of being deceptive. Brown University suspended its chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine after the group led a rally protesting the university's decision not to divest its endowment from certain companies that support Israel. As Wall Street financiers snapped up huge swaths of the nation’s rental housing market in recent years, the deals sailed through unchallenged. But large purchases of rental homes and apartment buildings by private equity firms like KKR are another cause, research shows. The Philippine police said Friday it has launched a search after gunmen reportedly abducted an American national, who was shot in the leg as he tried to resist before being spirited away from a southern Philippine coastal town by speedboat. Midway into October, the vibrant fall colors have drawn thousands of visitors to New England’s trails eager to capture the beauty of autumn.
