Eleven people were hospitalized after eating wild and apparently toxic mushrooms on Friday night, a fire agency that serves Pennsylvania Dutch Country said. The station reported that family members foraged wild mushrooms and ate them that night. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says eating mushrooms foraged outdoors should almost never be done except by trained experts known as mycologists. Most of the known mushroom poisonings and deaths in the United States involve foraging of amanita phalloides mushrooms, known as "death caps," in the wild, the CDC said in a report on the toxic fungi. Eating them can cause death as well as abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and liver damage, the CDC said.

CNN —Eleven members of an Amish family – including a 1-year-old – were hospitalized in Pennsylvania Friday night after ingesting wild, “toxic mushrooms,” local authorities said. “It was wild mushrooms, but the hospital would have to confirm the type,” Southern York County emergency medical services Chief Laura Taylor told CNN. The fire department and EMS units went to the family Friday night after being told the 11 had “ingested toxic mushrooms and were all ill,” the fire department said in a post on Facebook. The family was transported to WellSpan York Hospital, Taylor told CNN. The Pennsylvania State Police and York County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond for comment.

Aside from EVs, GM touted its lowering capital costs and the company’s flexibility to produce both traditional vehicles with internal combustion engines and EVs. Shares of GM were roughly level aside from a roughly 3% increase during the beginning of the event. The change to Ultium comes after GM spent billions of dollars to develop in-house “Ultium” batteries and technologies that the automaker previously touted as “revolutionary” and the ultimate technologies to be able to build a profitable EV business. The company said the batteries and the technologies will remain, but the name “Ultium” will not, other than production operations such as its “Ultium Cells” joint venture plants with LG Energy Solution. GM has been rethinking its EV battery strategy amid changing market conditions and an influx of new, outside executives, including Tesla veterans JP Clausen, who now leads GM manufacturing, and Kurt Kelty, GM’s vice president of battery.

But Pennsylvania stands apart as the state that top strategists for both Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump have circled as the likeliest to tip the election. There are struggling industrial towns where Mr. Trump needs to maximize his vote, and smaller cities booming with Latino immigrants where Ms. Harris aims to make gains. Mr. Trump won the county in 2016 by 19 percentage points, only four years after Mr. Obama carried it narrowly. One X factor is the regional impact of the assassination attempt on Mr. Trump in Butler County. “You guys don’t know what the hell it is,” Mr. Trump said of the tax break.

To kick off the week, Harris' interview with Alex Cooper on the popular "Call Her Daddy" podcast is expected to air Sunday. The Trump campaign declined to do a "60 Minutes" interview after initially accepting the invitation, according to the network. On Tuesday, the Harris campaign will fly the vice president to New York for appearances on ABC's "The View," CBS' "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "The Howard Stern Show." Along with various appearances on Fox News, more friendly territory for the Republican nominee, Trump has interviewed on podcasts that are popular with young men like "This Past Weekend w/Theo Von" and the "Lex Fridman Podcast." Trump plans ‘different’ eventFive days after the shooting, as Trump captivated Republicans in his convention speech in Milwaukee, the former president vowed to never again mention details of the assassination attempt. “Everybody up there, they were amazing,” Trump told the Erie crowd, some of whom cheered when he asked if any of them had been present at the Butler rally. They saw that we were in trouble.”The event Saturday at Butler Farm Show Inc. is expected to be “different” from a typical Trump rally, a senior Trump campaign adviser told CNN. Harris is blasting Trump on health care in Wisconsin, while Trump is hammering Harris on taxes in Georgia. The change is driven, in part, by internal campaign data showing that sharper messaging against Trump could persuade some still-unsure Americans to support Harris, according to three of the campaign officials. The Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan has closed a $1.5 billion loan to support the first reactor restart in U.S. history, the Department of Energy announced Monday. Palisades' owner, Holtec International, hopes to restart the plant in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to approval by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Demand for nuclear power is growing as the U.S. seeks carbon-free energy to meet rising electricity demand while meeting its climate goals. In the case of Palisades, the power is spoken for by Wolverine Power Cooperative, a nonprofit that provides electricity to rural communities in Michigan. The young boy couldn’t resist the dance moves he saw being performed around him: the rapid foot taps, the ligament-spraining knee twists, the torso shimmies, all coming together in what some might describe as a sort of urban tap dance. Growing up in an impoverished Black township near Johannesburg in the 1980s, the boy, Vusi Mdoyi, loved watching his father dance with friends, in a style known as pantsula, in the dirt yards of their staid four-room bungalows. It was a sprinkle of joy in the dark days of apartheid. At about 7 years old, Mr. Mdoyi began mimicking the dance form. By 14, he had created his own dance crew with neighborhood friends.
