Hard Rock has the monopoly on sports betting in the state, winning the exclusive tribal gaming compact following a hard-fought battle against Flutter -owned FanDuel, DraftKings and Penn Entertainment. When asked about comments made by FanDuel CEO Amy Howe on trying again to get into the Florida market, Hard Rock International Chairman and Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen said he's open to it. FanDuel and DraftKings declined to comment on the possibility of entering into a deal with Hard Rock. Last December at Seminole Hard Rock, the company marked what it called "a new chapter in Florida gaming," when it launched sports betting and expanded the casino table games across six Seminole Casinos in Florida. A hurricane watch and warnings of storm surges up to 15 feet high were issued Tuesday for almost all of Florida's western coastline as a potential tropical storm moves across the Caribbean Sea and towards the Gulf Coast. The hurricane watch extends from Indian Pass in north-west Florida near Panama City, down to Englewood, and includes Tampa Bay. Hurricane and tropical storm watches are now in effect for the entire western coast of the Sunshine State. A hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible, and is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated onslaught of tropical-storm-force winds and conditions. Outside of the U.S., a hurricane watch is also in effect for parts of eastern Mexico from Cabo Catoche to Tulum and Pinar del Río in Cuba.

Emergency crews in the county, which includes the cities of Clearwater and St. Petersburg, were fielding very high volumes of 911 calls Sunday night. Between 5 to 10 inches of rain have fallen in the area and as many as four more inches are possible. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge — a key transportation artery in Lower Tampa Bay — has been closed “due to high winds and inclement weather,” the Florida Highway Patrol announced.

A hurricane warning was in effect for sections of the state's coast with tropical storm warnings for the Florida Keys. Debby is the fourth named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season after Tropical Storm Alberto, Hurricane Beryl and Tropical Storm Chris, all of which formed in June. We're doing everything that we need to be prepared to face a tropical storm," Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said. "We've been in Florida our whole lives, in South Florida, so hurricanes are not really a big, big thing," Silverman said.

CNN —A tropical depression making its way towards the Florida coast is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Debby Saturday before delivering heavy, flooding rainfall and dangerous storm surge to the state starting this weekend. The storm is expected to enter the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday and become Tropical Storm Debby, according to the hurricane center. Tropical storm conditions could begin Saturday night in parts of southwest Florida. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Dry Tortugas and the west coast of the Florida peninsula from East Cape Sable to Boca Grande. Parts of the Florida Keys and parts of the Central Florida coast are also under a tropical storm watch, with officials urging residents there to prepare for tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours.
