The defense’s first witness, Joseph Clementi, said he was out running on the same trail as Riley the day of the murder. She testified Tuesday that Diego Ibarra told her he would "kill you, too," if she talked to police. She also admitted to having a sexual relationship with Diego Ibarra and to being upset that he may have been involved with someone else. She also said that she was the one who told Diego Ibarra about the murder that night and that he appeared not to know what had happened. The defense also called Diego Ibarra to testify Tuesday, but he did not take the witness stand because his attorney in a federal immigration case was not present.

California health officials on Tuesday reported a possible case of bird flu in a child with mild symptoms. A bird flu test on the child four days after the positive result came back negative. DETROIT — Stellantis is delaying the launch of its Ram electric pickup trucks from this year until the first half of 2025, as the trans-Atlantic automaker continues testing the vehicles. CEO Carlos Tavares on Tuesday declined to disclose details about what caused the delays or specific timing on the electric trucks, which include an all-electric “REV” model and an extended-range “Ramcharger” that’s equipped with an electric generator and a gas engine. Stellantis’ upcoming electric pickups are the first that will be built on the company’s new “STLA Frame platform” for its larger trucks and Jeep SUVs. It is expected to be a “multi-energy platform” that’s capable of internal combustion engines and hybrids, as well as electric models using batteries, fuel cells and range-extended electric propulsion systems. Doing so would deliver on Trump’s campaign comments about removing such incentives and EV initiatives.

SpaceX's Starship spacecraft sits atop its powerful Super Heavy rocket at the company's Boca Chica launchpad, near Brownsville, Texas, on November 16. Musk’s claims came after the FAA proposed $633,009 in civil penalties against SpaceX, saying the company violated launch license requirements twice during flights of its workhorse Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX has denied wrongdoing related to those requirements, saying none of the allegations related to public safety. Still, the FAA granted SpaceX its long-awaited license to move forward with Starship’s fifth uncrewed test launch in October — and that same launch license covers this week’s test flight. It marks the first time that SpaceX has not had to go back to the FAA to approve launch license changes since the company began this testing campaign years ago.

Stellantis' Ram 1500 Revolution battery-electric concept pickup truck is introduced during a keynote address by Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavaras during CES 2023 at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas on January 05, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. DETROIT — Stellantis is delaying the launch of its Ram all-electric pickup truck from this year until the first half of 2025, as the trans-Atlantic automaker continues testing the vehicle. CEO Carlos Tavares on Tuesday declined to disclose details about what caused the delay of the electric truck, which was expected to be followed by an extended-range "Ramcharger" that's equipped with an electric generator and a gas engine. It's better to take a few weeks more to validate properly than to rush and then to make mistakes in terms of quality. The all-electric pickup was expected to go on sale by the end of this year, followed by the Ramcharger during the first quarter of 2025.

This week, the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid expanded its "phased rollout" so all students can now apply for aid for the upcoming academic year. Up until Monday, the 2025-26 FAFSA was only available to limited groups of students in a series of beta tests that began on Oct. 1. Now, the form is open to all and the Department of Education has said it will be out of testing entirely by Nov. 22 — which puts the official launch ahead of schedule. This year, the plan was to be available to all students and contributors on or before Dec. 1. Students who submit a form during this final "expanded beta" phase before Nov. 22 will not need to submit a subsequent 2025–26 FAFSA form, the Education Department said.

“So, I paid it.”On online baby message boards and other social media forums, pregnant women say they are being asked by their providers to pay out-of-pocket fees earlier than expected. In some cases, they may cause women to forgo prenatal care altogether, especially in places where few other maternity care options exist. When a pregnancy ends, OB-GYNs typically file a single insurance claim for routine prenatal care, labor, delivery, and, often, postpartum care. In addition, many people are opting for high-deductible health insurance plans, leaving them to shoulder a larger share of the costs. Of the 100 million U.S. people with health care debt, 12% attribute at least some of it to maternity care, according to a 2022 KFF poll.

CNN —An American silver coin dating back to the 17th century, before the United States was founded, has sold for a record-breaking $2.52 million at auction, eight years after it was discovered in an old cabinet in Amsterdam. The threepence coin was struck in 1652 in Boston just weeks after the first mint in the then-British colony had opened, according to a statement released Monday by Stack’s Bowers Galleries, which handled the sale. This was a threepence coin, as shown by the Roman numerals on one side of it. A rare 1794 silver dollar believed to be one of the first – if not the first – made by the US mint sold for $10 million in 2013. Meanwhile, a rare 1933 “Double Eagle” coin, one of the last gold coins ever struck for circulation in the US, sold for $18.9 million in 2021.

But many Syracuse residents feel that a potential threat to their health is being ignored. “This is morally outrageous.”City officials say that more than 14,000 homes receive water from lead pipes, which comprises about a quarter of residences citywide. In Syracuse, officials say there is no lead in the lake that provides drinking water to residents. That’s faster than EPA guidelines that call for lead pipes to be replaced within a decade. Activists hope Syracuse officials will learn lessons from the Flint water crisis, during which almost 30,000 children drank and bathed in lead-laced water before the EPA stepped in.

Pure-play electric vehicle stocks like Rivian and Lucid are flat and down more than 3%, respectively, since Trump's victory. So why is Tesla soaring even as a second Trump administration is expected to fundamentally disrupt the U.S. electric vehicle market? And increased tariffs could make inputs for electric vehicles more expensive. These headwinds ignore the fact that Trump's new best friend is Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi told clients in a Monday note. But Tesla's fundamentals are largely steady postelection, while Musk's relationship with Trump underlines how Tesla largely controls the self-driving vehicle narrative, the analyst said.

CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks are unique for many reasons. Kennedy brings his addiction worldview to prescription drugs such as those overseen by the Food and Drug Administration, which he would oversee if confirmed as HHS secretary. But Musk denied allegations of past drug use as reported in The Wall Street Journal early this year. Federal employees are barred from taking illegal drugs, and there are no reports to indicate that any of Trump’s Cabinet or other administration picks are using illegal drugs. CNN has reported that this year, Trump’s team is bypassing long and cumbersome FBI background checks for some of his Cabinet picks.

Biden, Xi agree that humans, not AI, should control nuclear arms

"The two leaders affirmed the need to maintain human control over the decision to use nuclear weapons," the White House said in a statement. But it marks a first-of-its-kind step between the two countries in the discussion of two issues on which progress has been elusive: nuclear arms and artificial intelligence. Washington has been pushing Beijing for months to break a longstanding resistance to nuclear arms talks. Formal nuclear arms control negotiations have not been expected any time soon, despite U.S. concerns about China's rapid nuclear weapons build-up, even though semi-official exchanges have resumed. The U.S. defense department estimated last year that Beijing has 500 operational nuclear warheads and will probably field more than 1,000 by 2030.
