CNN —Eugene “Mercury” Morris, two-time Super Bowl champion with the Miami Dolphins and linchpin of the team’s perfect 1972 season has died, his son Troy-Jeffrey Morris announced on social media on behalf of the family Sunday. Morris rushed for a career-best 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in the 1972 perfect season. CNN —US officials on Monday touted another month of low border crossings, citing recent executive action curbing asylum access at the US southern border, even as former President Donald Trump levels campaign attacks over the Biden administration’s handling of border security. But while border crises have dogged administration officials for the better part of Joe Biden’s presidency, the number of people illegally crossing the border over the last two months has drastically fallen. Encounters between ports of entry have decreased by more than 50% and are the lowest since September 2020, according to US Customs and Border Protection. In September 2020, Border Patrol recorded 54,771 encounters along the US southern border. Administration officials cite the executive action that Biden announced in June, which largely bars migrants from seeking asylum at the US southern border, for the dramatic decline in crossings.

Powell said that “the time has come” to ease rates, currently perched at a 23-year high, at a key economic summit in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He also noted that the labor market has cooled enough not to pressure inflation higher and that the central bank does not want to see more weakening in job market conditions. Some officials also fretted that the softening labor market could weaken considerably if policy stays restrictive for too long. Recent data has shown that US job growth was weaker than previously estimated in the 12 months leading up to March.

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, on Tuesday released body camera and security videos of a man shown charging at a police officer and knocking him to the pavement, where he hit his head and was critically injured. Officer Brown suffered a severe head injury after he was knocked to the ground, police said. A still from security video shows a protester charging toward Officer Travis Brown in Ferguson, Mo. — A Ferguson, Missouri, police officer was critically injured outside the city’s police station during protests on the 10th anniversary of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, a pivotal moment in the national Black Lives Matter movement, police said Saturday. Ferguson police chief Troy Doyle said Officer Travis Brown suffered a severe brain injury Friday after being knocked to the ground. Two other officers also were hurt, one sustaining an ankle injury and another an abrasion. Doyle said Travis Brown started with the department in January and previously worked for the St. Louis County Police Department. I had to look his mother in the eye and tell her what happened to her son.

The CrowdStrike software at fault operates at what’s called the kernel level of a computer, a much deeper level than what more ordinary applications such as browsers or video games do. For businesses with hundreds or thousands of laptops, desktops and servers running CrowdStrike’s security software, an individual human may have to perform that process over and over and over again. Because CrowdStrike’s security software is running on countless individual computers all around the globe, the update that got pushed to those devices caused them all to shut down, virtually simultaneously. The CrowdStrike bug may have initially been conflated with the Microsoft issue because CrowdStrike’s error affected only Windows machines. As of Friday morning, Microsoft said the issue with Microsoft 365 had been resolved and that the situation was improving.
