Garten's mac and cheese is the perfect make-ahead dish for the holidays. Garten's overnight mac and cheese is a creamy, decadent dream. More importantly, Garten's overnight mac and cheese is extremely delicious. It's my favorite "Barefoot Contessa" mac and cheese recipe, although Garten's "grown up" mac and cheese is definitely a close second. These additives, along with high levels of sugar, salt and fat, help create the overwhelming lure of ultraprocessed foods. Ultraprocessed foods are typically high in added sugars, fats and salt; low in dietary fiber; and full of chemical additives, such as artificial colors, flavors and stabilizers. “There’s a lot of debate about whether or not all ultraprocessed foods are bad for you,” Hall said. Reduce intake of ultraprocessed foods — it’s really that simple.”Unfortunately, advisory committees are instructed to make recommendations using only the strictest science, Nestle added. It takes two overflowing trays of a mix of minimal and ultraprocessed foods to match the same energy density as one trayful of ultraprocessed foods.

Investors should brace themselves for another big move next year, according to an analysis of historical data from Bank of America. The S & P 500 is up 24.7% in 2024 and on track for its second straight year with a gain of more than 20%. After rising 31% and 38% in 1927 and 1928, respectively, the S & P 500 lost 12% in 1929 and another 28% in 1930, Hartnett said. The last time the S & P 500 posted back-to-back 20% annual gains was in the 1990s, soaring 34% in 1995 and 20% in 1996. Hartnett noted that the "secret sauce" for the S & P 500 to avoid some of the sharp reversals seen before is a decline in Treasury yields.

Donald Trump's election has left some concerned that his policies could harm diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, especially given some of his outspoken Cabinet picks and his interest in potentially dismantling the Department of Education. Though some companies are pulling back, many still view DEI as essential. DEI became a top priority for U.S. companies after the 2020 protests following George Floyd's murder. But in the past couple of years, some of these same companies like Google, Meta , Lowe's and Ford have scaled back their DEI initiatives, citing political pressure, high costs and economic uncertainty. Watch the video above to find out more about why some companies are pulling back from DEI initiatives.

Carpenter Technology has multiple avenues of growth over the next few years, according to JPMorgan. "Shares have rallied ... on the back of strong demand, solid execution, and an attractive earnings outlook, and we feel the company is well positioned to capture further upside," Moore said in a Thursday note. Moore's investment thesis is built on the company's robust demand for its mostly customer-specific premium products, which he said gives Carpenter strong pricing power and supported its position as an "indispensable supplier." President-elect Donald J. Trump picked Scott Bessent to serve as Treasury secretary on Friday, tapping a billionaire hedge fund manager to lead an economic agenda that is expected to be built around raising tariffs and cutting taxes. Mr. Bessent, the founder of the investment firm Key Square Capital Management, has emerged as a central economic adviser to Mr. Trump over the past year. Unlike many on Wall Street, Mr. Bessent, 62, has also defended the use of tariffs, which are Mr. Trump’s favorite economic tool. If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Bessent would take over a department with vast responsibilities that is at the core of the federal government. The Treasury Department issues debt to fund the government’s operations and pay its bills, including paying Social Security and veterans benefits.

A key Cabinet player, the US Treasury secretary advises the president on economic and fiscal matters, including spending and taxes.
