According to an analysis of US Census data by NBC News, around 18% of homeowners in Florida are without home insurance. A hurricane watch and warnings of storm surges up to 15 feet high were issued Tuesday for almost all of Florida's western coastline as a potential tropical storm moves across the Caribbean Sea and towards the Gulf Coast. The hurricane watch extends from Indian Pass in north-west Florida near Panama City, down to Englewood, and includes Tampa Bay. Hurricane and tropical storm watches are now in effect for the entire western coast of the Sunshine State. A hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible, and is typically issued 48 hours before the anticipated onslaught of tropical-storm-force winds and conditions. Outside of the U.S., a hurricane watch is also in effect for parts of eastern Mexico from Cabo Catoche to Tulum and Pinar del Río in Cuba.

CNN —A tropical depression making its way towards the Florida coast is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Debby Saturday before delivering heavy, flooding rainfall and dangerous storm surge to the state starting this weekend. The storm is expected to enter the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday and become Tropical Storm Debby, according to the hurricane center. Tropical storm conditions could begin Saturday night in parts of southwest Florida. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Dry Tortugas and the west coast of the Florida peninsula from East Cape Sable to Boca Grande. Parts of the Florida Keys and parts of the Central Florida coast are also under a tropical storm watch, with officials urging residents there to prepare for tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours.

The next wave of Disney theme park expansion in the U.S. is primed to be in California rather than Florida. The decision requires Disney to put a minimum of $1.9 billion in theme parks, lodging, entertainment, shopping and dining within 10 years. In Florida, Disney has had a more difficult time navigating the political landscape — leading to Disney World development tie-ups. In its fiscal 2024 second quarter , Disney's Parks & Experience division, which includes theme parks, resorts, cruises, hotels, and consumer products grew sales by nearly 10% to $8.93 billion and operating income by more than 12% to $2.29 billion.
