New York CNN —One day after The Washington Post announced it would not endorse a presidential candidate in this year’s election or in the future, its billionaire owner remains silent as the newspaper’s staff are in turmoil. A source with knowledge told CNN on Friday that an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris had been drafted before it was squashed. But when Baron was in charge of the newspaper, Bezos “resisted that pressure” and he was “proud” and “grateful” for that leadership. “Bezos has other commercial interests, a big stake and Amazon, he has a space company called Blue Origin,” Baron said. “Reporting around the role of The Washington Post owner and the decision not to publish a presidential endorsement has been inaccurate,” Lewis said.

The U.S. Army on Friday released a heavily redacted copy of a police report stemming from an August incident in which a staffer from former President Donald Trump’s campaign allegedly pushed an Arlington National Cemetery worker. A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday night on the Army documents. Arlington National Cemetery released a statement at the time pointing to a federal law barring political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, including the use of photographers. An Army spokesperson also said in August that the Trump campaign aide had “abruptly pushed aside” a cemetery employee who was trying to enforce restrictions on taking photos and video in that area. Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung previously denied elements of the incident, saying that there “was no physical altercation as described,” and that an unnamed person “decided to physically block” members of Trump’s team.

The magazine reported Tuesday that Trump said during a private conversation while he was in office that he needed generals like Adolf Hitler's. "People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders," he said, The Atlantic reported, citing two people who said they heard him make the remark. Surely you can’t mean Hitler’s generals? And he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, Hitler’s generals,'" The Atlantic reported Kelly as saying. Kelly also told The New York Times in a series of recent interviews published online this week that Trump told him that "Hitler did some good things."

CNN —A military law enforcement investigation is still ongoing into the incident at Arlington National Cemetery when an employee was reportedly pushed by a member of former President Donald Trump’s campaign. An Army spokesperson previously said in August that the service “considers this matter closed.”The Army on Friday released a highly redacted police report filed in August by the employee. “The law enforcement investigation into the incident remains open and we are therefore unable to provide further information at this time,” an Army release including the report said on Friday. In one photo that was shared online the grave of Army Master Sgt. Marckesano’s sister, Michele, said in a statement that while they supported the families of the 13 fallen “in their quest for answers” regarding the Afghanistan withdrawal, the Trump campaign “did not adhere to the rules” of Section 60.

The Chinese hackers also targeted people affiliated with the Harris-Walz campaign, another source familiar with the matter told CNN. US officials informed the Trump campaign this week that Trump and Vance were among a group of people whose phones were targeted by the Chinese hackers, one of the sources said. In a statement, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung attacked the Harris campaign for allegedly emboldening China. The activity is part of a much broader Chinese hacking campaign that has infiltrated multiple US telecommunications firms in the last several months. US officials have briefed members of the House and Senate intelligence committees on the Chinese hacking campaign.

As part of his efforts leading up to Election Day, former President Donald Trump will address the Asian American and Pacific Islander community at a rally in Nevada on Thursday. Trump will take the stage in Las Vegas alongside former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii in one of his first events geared toward Asian American communities. Organizers say they aim to bring Asian voters into the conservative movement and convince them Trump is the best choice for them. Exit polling after the 2020 election showed 58% of eligible voters in the community supported Joe Biden, while 40% supported Trump. Progressive Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders take issue with Kirk’s characterization that Asians in the state are aligning with Trump, saying their observation has been the opposite.

Trump’s alleged fixation with Hitler was also supported by material in several books, including one by CNN’s Jim Sciutto. Trump’s campaign denied the exchange about Trump and Hitler reported in The Atlantic. President Trump never said this,” campaign adviser Alex Pfeiffer said. I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, I have no idea,” he said. And the 44th president reinforced Democratic warnings about Trump’s age and cognition — turning his successor’s former strategy against Biden on him.

Donald Trump on Friday dismissed more questions about whether he would release his current medical records, doubling down on refusing to provide a health update even as Kamala Harris works to sow doubts about his fitness for the presidency. The 78-year-old Republican nominee, when asked if he will release his health records, suggested that he has already shared enough information about his medical status. "Yeah, my health records – I've done five exams over the last four years. Trump told CBS News in August that he would "very gladly" release his medical records, but his campaign has not done so. That same day, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung claimed in a statement that the Republican nominee "has voluntarily released" multiple health reports.

In a case separate from the hush money trial, Daniels was ordered to pay for Trump’s legal fees after she lost a defamation suit she filed against him. Trump's team had asked Chutkan to compel prosecutors in special counsel Jack Smith's office to provide them with additional evidence, including "all information" about foreign interference and influence efforts in the 2020 election. It's part of the Trump team's attempt to present Trump's concerns about mass voter fraud — which were roundly rejected by independent arbiters and courts — as "reasonable" and grounded in reality. Judge Tanya Chutkan pushed back on Trump's claims on Wednesday in an order that rejected all but three of his 14 categories of requests for additional evidence. Trump's state of mind is essential to the case, and Smith's team has alleged that Trump "knew" his election lies "were false." The Supreme Court gutted part of Smith's case over the summer with its ruling on presidential immunity, but the case against Trump is — very slowly — churning towards a potential trial.

“Who the hell wants to hear questions?” Trump said at the event where the entire point was to take audience questions. It’s bizarre and raises more and more concerns for voters," said a Harris campaign adviser who also previously worked for President Joe Biden. “President Trump has more energy and more stamina than anyone in politics, and is the smartest leader this country has ever seen,” the statement read. Once it was clear that Trump wanted to listen to music, campaign staff behind the scenes started to scramble to accommodate the request. The town hall led to Trump being late for a tele-rally with Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick.

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris said on her campaign's X account that Trump rambled and "looked confused" on stage during the event. Almost 30 minutes into the town hall event, Trump paused the event so someone in the audience could receive treatment. Two minutes later, as Trump faced the fifth question of the night, another person became ill and the song played again. Kristi Noem of South Dakota asked Trump on stage, "Do you want to play your song and then greet a few people?" A national NBC News poll on Sunday put Trump and Harris neck and neck among registered voters, with three weeks to go until election day.

CNN —Musician Rufus Wainwright is speaking out against the use of his famous cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign at a recent event. In the caption of his post on Tuesday, Wainwright wrote: “The song ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen has become an anthem dedicated to peace, love and acceptance of the truth. I’m not holding my breath.”According to the statement, the publishing company for the Cohen estate has sent the Trump campaign a cease and desist letter. CNN has reached out to the Cohen estate, and to Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, for comment. Wainwright and Cohen’s estate are also not the first to have problems with the Trump campaign playing their music.

But Trump also doubled down on his refusal to release his own health records — which Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Trump's campaign event Monday night was billed as a town hall where Trump would take questions from South Dakota Gov. Harris' medical history includes seasonal allergies and hives, but she has never experienced severe symptoms, Dr. Joshua Simmons wrote in the two-page letter. A day after releasing her records, Harris blasted Trump at a campaign rally in North Carolina. "He refuses to release his medical records," Harris said at a campaign rally in North Carolina on Sunday.

Is that what’s going on?”Invoking Trump’s medical history may serve a particular purpose for Harris, reminding voters that they're a generation apart in age and that at 78, Trump is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history. Trump told CBS News in August that he would release his medical records. Holding clipboards, Democratic campaign aides approached Harris supporters as they stood in line to enter the arena Sunday, inviting them to knock on doors on her behalf and to staff phone banks. And let’s handle November.”Supporters lined up hours before Harris’ appearance at the East Carolina University basketball arena. A disc jockey kept Harris’ supporters entertained as they waited for her to take the stage, something of a campaign novelty meant to keep the crowd energized throughout.

With the 2024 election nearing, questions arise about whether Trump will accept the results if he loses. That "always claim victory" rule came into play during the 2020 presidential election. Zients also made clear that President Joe Biden had directed the Secret Service to provide the highest level of protection for Trump, the source said. A subsequent letter from Wiles to acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe reviewed by NBC News confirmed several of the campaign’s requests. The Trump campaign also requested that special operations forces be assigned to protect Trump, according to two U.S. officials. A defense official told NBC News that the “department continues to provide enhanced support to the U.S. Secret Service” for the presidential and vice presidential candidates. Another source said Trump is receiving the same level of protection as Biden, so the campaign should not expect more.

“I think instinct is everything, and collaboration,” Stan said in a recent interview with CNN. CNN reported in May, around the time of the film’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, that Trump’s team was considering a lawsuit over the film’s release and distribution. “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked,” Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesperson, said in a statement to CNN at the time. In an interview with CNN, the film’s director Ali Abbasi questioned whether US audiences would ever get to see it. “So that became the red thread through the story, and we organized everything around it, and that was very helpful.”“The Apprentice” is now playing in theaters.

Trump’s campaign also expects to draw huge, raucous crowds, and command outsized media attention – which would pay dividends across the political map. It’s the same reason Trump’s campaign has had the former president sit down with popular YouTube streamers and podcasters. Harris’ campaign has employed a similar strategy in recent weeks, targeting specific groups of voters with her appearances on podcasts and other interviews. Coachella rallyTrump’s rally Saturday at the Calhoun Ranch in the Coachella Valley drew criticism from a number of local officials. Still, the main strategic purpose of those trips is to hit Democrats on issues Trump’s campaign sees as its strongest, including crime and border security.

Trump’s re-election campaign has excoriated the project, calling it “pure malicious defamation” and “garbage,” and sent the producers a cease-and-desist letter. Vanity Fair journalist Gabriel Sherman, who wrote the screenplay, draws a direct line between Cohn’s bare-knuckle tactics and Trump’s modern-day political persona. In one graphic scene, the dramatized Trump character sexually assaults his first wife, Ivana Trump (played by Maria Bakalova), after a bitter argument. In another notable sequence, Trump’s character goes under the knife for scalp reduction surgery and a liposuction procedure. “You might find some of these character questions you have about Trump answered,” Abbasi said.

But Putin is not the only foreign leader Trump is talking to. And it is hardly unusual for a presidential nominee to begin holding some talks with foreign leaders. After the first attempt to assassinate Trump, in July, foreign leaders quickly moved to offer him their well-wishes.
