PHOENIX (AP) — Chris Paul's return to Phoenix ended in the second quarter on Wednesday night after the 12-time All-Star was ejected by his old nemesis: referee Scott Foster. The Golden State Warriors guard and Foster have a long, acrimonious history, with the point guard complaining about Foster's officiating for nearly a decade. Now Paul says that a years-old issue that involves his son is at least part of the reason for the friction. Foster walked away but Paul kept yelling and the referee quickly turned and gave the point guard another technical, which caused the ejection. Everybody gets frustrated out there, but that’s up to the official.”Warriors team personnel had to get between Paul and Foster before the guard left the court.

DENVER (AP) — The Denver Nuggets extended the contract of coach Michael Malone after he guided the franchise to its first NBA title, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Monday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the extension. Malone has gone 375-272 with the Nuggets, which included earning the best mark in the Western Conference last season. Jokic had a chance to wrap it up with 15 seconds left and the Nuggets up 107-105, but missed two free throws. “He approaches the game different game to game," Looney explained. MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Losing a game at the Basketball World Cup, the U.S. national team said, was quite the wake-up call. The Americans turned words into actions and handed the Italians their worst loss in a global tournament — the World Cup or the Olympics — in nearly 45 years. “They created very good shots and they made them.”It was the quarterfinal round where it all went wrong for the U.S. at the World Cup four years ago in China. Coach Steve Kerr likes to stage his film sessions there when the space is available. Otherwise, he said, the team is stuck “in the dungeon down below,” outside its locker room. He was grateful for the open space, especially ahead of Sunday’s Game 7. That can make a difference.”Something else can make a difference, too: Stephen Curry. No one seemed more Zen on Sunday than Curry, who led the Warriors to a series-clinching, 120-100 victory by skewering the Kings in every conceivable way on his way to 50 points — an N.B.A.

He waved his arms and yelled — then screamed twice more for good measure — and the white-knuckled Warriors crowd responded with a roar, accepting his direction unquestioningly, an orchestra following its conductor. Curry’s Golden State Warriors had entered Thursday night’s game, the third of their first-round playoff series against the Sacramento Kings, in an uncomfortable spot. They were facing their first 2-0 playoff deficit since Steve Kerr began coaching them in 2014. had suspended for stepping on the chest of Kings forward-center Domantas Sabonis in Game 2 on Monday. But it, too, is at Golden State, and for that reason alone the Warriors were feeling the series was far from over.

Jan 17 (Reuters) - WNBA star Brittney Griner and gun control were on the agenda as the Golden State Warriors visited the White House on Tuesday, celebrating their fourth championship title in eight seasons with U.S. President Joe Biden. Klay Thompson and other members of the team chuckled and looked down sheepishly as Biden said, "Let me just say that the Golden State Warriors are always welcome in this White House," adding emphasis to "this." The Warriors' title win in June capped a remarkable turnaround for the franchise, after the previous two seasons had ended in disappointment. Head coach Steve Kerr and players Thompson and Moses Moody attended a roundtable discussion with senior White House staffers on gun violence and gun control. Kerr famously made an impassioned plea for stricter gun control after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, last year.
CNN —Golden State fans wait anxiously for a verdict on Steph Curry as the superstar guard will get an MRI after he suffered a shoulder injury in the Warriors’ 125-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers. Late in the third quarter, Curry was injured when trying to defend against the Pacers’ Jalen Smith. As the Indiana forward drove to the basket, Curry reached out an arm that was bent backwards. “The trainers told me he was out midway through the fourth quarter. It was a night to forget for Golden State which is already missing Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins to injuries.
CNN —Luka Doncić racked up an incredible 41-point triple-double as his Dallas Mavericks beat Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors 116-113. Doncić finished with 41 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists – his fifth triple-double of the season – and for good measure, added four steals and a block. Curry has excelled this season and is averaging 31.4 points per game but is struggling to carry the Warriors. Ron Jenkins/Getty ImagesFor all of Doncić’s brilliance, it was another night where Curry was let down by his teammates. After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr addressed the team’s poor start to the season, “We have to expect that teams are going to make shots against us.
CNN —Steph Curry scored 50 points for the 11th time in his NBA career, but his efforts weren’t enough for the struggling Golden State Warriors against the Phoenix Suns as the defending champions went down 130-119. The Warriors are now 6-9 on the season and winless from eight games on the road – a troubling sign as the team looks to win a fifth title since 2015. “We’re never going to panic, there’s no point in panicking,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after Wednesday’s game. ”It’s important to have a team,” Booker said about the even scoring distribution throughout the team. They next visit the Utah Jazz on Friday while the Warriors welcome the New York Knicks.
CNN —Steph Curry put on a performance for the ages against the Sacramento Kings to give the Golden State Warriors a much needed 116-113 win to end a five-game losing streak. Andrew Wiggins added 25 points and 10 rebounds and Klay Thompson chipped in with 16 to help the Warriors over the line. That pattern would continue, with the Warriors bench being outscored 49-15 by the Kings. By the end of the third quarter, the Warriors were still down by nine points, but Curry took it to the next level. After the game, Curry said: “That’s the story of this team.
