WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would meet with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Friday morning at Trump Tower in New York. Trump was previously not expected to meet with the Ukrainian president, who has already held meetings on Thursday with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump's planned meeting with Zelenskyy comes days after Zelenskyy called Vance "too radical," according to a story published Sunday in The New Yorker. Vance responded to Zelenskyy on Wednesday, saying, "I don’t appreciate Zelenskyy coming to this country and telling the American taxpayers what to do." Biden and Zelenskyy will meet again on Oct. 12 in Germany, according to the White House.

WASHINGTON — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been disbarred from practicing law in Washington, D.C., according to an order filed Thursday by the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Both panels had pointed to Giuliani trying to get thousands of votes for President Joe Biden tossed out in the battleground state of Pennsylvania that year. The D.C. Bar's Board on Professional Responsibility said in a report in June that there was "clear and convincing evidence" that Giuliani "violated Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct" and therefore "should be disbarred." Giuliani also lost his law license in New York state in July over his actions to disseminate lies about voter fraud in the 2020 election. Separately, he faces charges in Arizona and Georgia over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in those states.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond called the devices “a huge problem,” adding they were still investigating whether the shooters used a switch or another type of weapon. “Machine gun conversion devices have no place in our community,” US Attorney Prim Escalona said. Woodfin, the Birmingham mayor, noted that conversion devices are illegal federally but not under state law, and he called on the state legislature to ban the devices. Last week he participated in a demonstration at a Montgomery shooting range in which trained firearm experts tried (and failed) to aim while using the conversion devices. This year, the city of Chicago filed a lawsuit against Glock, alleging the handgun company has failed to prevent the use of conversion devices on its weapons.

TikTok said Monday it had removed accounts belonging to Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik for engaging in what TikTok called “covert influence operations.”The social video app said in a statement on its website that it removed accounts associated with TV-Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya, the parent organizations of the RT television network and the Russian news agency Sputnik. The suspensions follow the Biden administration’s accusations this month that RT acts as an arm of Moscow’s spy agencies. Social media rivals Meta and YouTube have announced similar suspensions of Russian state media accounts, although other tech companies such as X have left up RT and Sputnik accounts. RT and Sputnik both published reports over the weekend saying that some of their accounts had been deleted without explanation. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this month that he believed Russian outlets such as RT had moved beyond working as media outlets and had turned into covert intelligence operations.
