CNN —A gold watch gifted to the captain of a ship which rescued more than 700 passengers and crew from the Titanic has sold for a record-breaking £1.56 million ($1.97 million). The gold pocket watch was inscribed with a message from the three surviving widows to mark their "heartfelt gratitude and appreciation" for Captain Rostron. The previous record for a Titanic-related object sold at auction was also a pocket watch, which sold for £1.175 million ($1.485 million) earlier this year. For auctioneer Andrew Aldridge, the latest sale is a sign that interest in the story of the Titanic shows no sign of slowing down. The watch was sold to a private collector in the US and the sale figure includes fees and taxes paid by the buyer, according to PA media.

Mark Hammond, said the wreck was found with the help of advanced hydrographic survey capabilities aboard naval support ship MV Stoker. “Nix’s position was hopeless from the moment Edsall was sighted,” Cox wrote. At least one hit Edsall, and the ship began to lose its ability to maneuver. The discovery highlighted the current AUKUS partnership, between the US, Australia and the United Kingdom, she said.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump’s consistent campaign pledge to impose sweeping tariffs on products imported into the U.S. is likely to face stiff challenges in court and potentially pushback from Congress. There are potential legal limits to Trump’s authority, even though he has said he would unilaterally impose the increases. But a broad array of tariffs on allies “could cross the line,” especially as the Supreme Court has taken a generally pro-business stance in recent years, he added. During the Biden administration, the Supreme Court embraced a theory called the “major questions doctrine.” Biden’s ambitious plan to wipe out billions of dollars in student debt was one of the proposals the Supreme Court faulted.
