PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring Friday at Gobbler’s Knob in Pennsylvania, the scene of the country’s largest and best known Groundhog Day celebration in the United States. Just after sunrise Friday, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club announced Phil did not see his shadow, which will usher in early springlike weather. A bundled-up crowd, some wearing groundhog-themed hats, watched musical performances and fireworks as they waited for sunrise and the appearance of Punxsutawney Phil. Phil predicts more winter far more often than he sees an early spring, not a bad bet for February and March in western Pennsylvania. The 1993 blockbuster film “Groundhog Day,” starring Bill Murray, fueled interest in Punxsutawney Phil and inspired informal observations far and wide.

These and other treasures were quickly taken off display and brought to special bunkers to ensure they are not damaged during the war. But this is a different situation so we have to act accordingly," said Hagit Maoz, curator of the Shrine of the Book at Jerusalem's Israel Museum. The last time the museum removed the display, Maoz said, was during the 1991 Gulf War when Iraq fired missiles at Israel. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art took similar precautions. There is a reason so many Jews cannot stop shaking right now. The concept of intergenerational trauma doesn’t begin to describe the dark place into which this month’s attack plunged Jewish communities around the world. Many American Jews, like Jews around the world, are descendants of those who survived. As was true in ancient times, the ties between global Jewish communities and Israel are concrete, specific, intimate and personal. Millions of American Jews, not to mention Jews in Britain, France, Australia and elsewhere, have friends and relatives in Israel.

CNN —Archaeologists have found four Roman swords and a shafted weapon known as a pilum dating from 1,900 years ago in a cave near the shore of the Dead Sea in Israel. Amir Ganor/Israel Antiquities AuthorityFurther investigation revealed four swords “in an almost inaccessible crevice on the upper level of the cave,” the statement said. Three of the swords had iron blades inside wooden scabbards and measured 60-65 centimeters (24-26 inches) in length. Further excavations uncovered a bronze “Bar Kokhba” coin dating from 132–135 CE, possibly dating the swords, according to the press release.
