The Game: Denver (3-3) at New Orleans (2-4)The Storyline: Denver coach Sean Payton returns to New Orleans for the first time since 2022, when he stepped down after 15 seasons as the Saints’ coach, a run that included the franchise’s only Super Bowl title. Payton has downplayed the effect the emotions of the visit will have on the game itself, as has Dennis Allen, the longtime Saints assistant who succeeded Payton. New Orleans has converted 47% of its third-down opportunities, the NFL’s third-highest rate, while the Broncos rank second worst at 25%. Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler completed 22 of his 40 passes against Tampa Bay with a touchdown and two interceptions Sunday in his pro debut. That could spell trouble against a New Orleans defense with 10 interceptions, second most in the league.

One of the nation's most prominent and influential couples shared the spotlight with baseball's postseason Monday night as the New York Yankees opened the American League Championship Series at home. Major League Baseball posted video of pop juggernaut Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce, a tight end for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, in the stands, after previously announcing they would be in attendance. Are we living through another Lamar Jackson MVP season? The Bears defense has also been phenomenal and will keep them in games even when Williams will inevitably struggle, as all rookies do. Full disclosure: One of my bold predictions entering the season was that Rattler would wind up taking Derek Carr’s job this season. The bigger concern is the Saints’ defense, which surrendered 600 yards and 50 points and allowed the Bucs to convert 6 of 10 third downs. New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is expected to miss multiple games with an oblique injury according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. Carr was injured in the fourth quarter of the Saints’ 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. Carr has completed 70.3% of his passes for New Orleans (2-3) so far this season, the second-best mark of his career. The Saints scored 91 points in the first two weeks of the season but only 67 over the last three. The Saints' next two games are against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this upcoming Sunday, and the Denver Broncos the following Thursday.

CNN —The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are departing for their Week 6 matchup early in order to avoid the expected landfall of Hurricane Milton in Tampa, Florida. Milton has reached speeds of 175 mph and was classed as a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, but has dipped back into Category 4 status. It is the strongest hurricane to occur anywhere on the planet this year and one of the 10 strongest (tied for ninth) hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic.
