Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs filed a motion Tuesday requesting that his accusers in a federal sex trafficking case be publicly identified so he can prepare a proper defense. Sean "Diddy" Combs and his defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo stand before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky after prosecutors brought three criminal charges against him in federal court in Manhattan on Sept. 17. Yesterday alone, anonymous accusers filed an additional six lawsuits,” Tuesday's motion argues. Buzbee announced at an Oct. 1 news conference that he was representing accusers with allegations against Combs — under the Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. The lawsuits name Combs and his various businesses as defendants, and the accusers are seeking unspecified damages.

Small businesses also face tight credit conditions and are slowing hiring. AdvertisementThe September payrolls report seemed to switch the investor narrative around the labor market on a dime. This is while S&P 500 valuations remain high, putting the market at risk for big declines. In a September note, Wolfenbarger shared the below chart from Bank of America showing 19 of 20 valuation measures they monitor as being overvalued. That means the S&P 500 would have to fall 60% just to return to the historical average. But it's still unclear how accurate the September jobs data is. Future revisions and further lackluster jobs data could resume investor fears that a downturn is a serious potential threat.

In reality, a federal judge, not Smith, made the decision to release that filing to the public. After hearing opposition from Trump's team about the redactions Smith's team suggested, Chutkan reviewed the brief and ultimately decided that the redactions were appropriate. Disappointing economic data recently generated worries that the Fed missed an opportunity at its meeting last week to, if not cut rates outright, send a clearer signal that easing is on the way. In the past, the Fed has implemented just nine such cuts, and all have come amid extreme duress, according to Bank of America. Lacking a catalyst for an intermeeting cut, the Fed is nonetheless expected to cut rates almost as swiftly as it hiked from March 2022-July 2023. Why wait?”LaVorgna, though, isn’t convinced the Fed is in a life-or-death battle against recession. Still, any quakes in the data, such as Friday’s downside surprise to the nonfarm payrolls numbers, could ignite recession talk quickly.

The economist and market strategist David Rosenberg took a lot of heat for predicting that the Federal Reserve’s big increase in interest rates would tip the U.S. economy into recession. “I spent most of the past year being absolutely beaten up,” he told me last week. “I had email from clients that you would not believe, and many cancellations.”The latest economic data, including a sharp slowdown in job growth in July, is indicating that Rosenberg may well have been right all along.
