CNN —Victims and family members of those killed in the 2022 mass shooting at the LGBTQIA+ Club Q in Colorado Springs have sued the El Paso County Board of Commissioners and others, alleging authorities could have prevented the shooting if they had enforced the state’s “red flag law” against the gunman. One was filed by the families of the dead victims and five victims themselves – a second was filed by Barrett Hudson, who sustained seven gunshot wounds. “The shooter had a history of violent threats and behavior that clearly warranted intervention,” the suits say. When a man arrived at a New Hampshire animal shelter last week claiming he wanted to surrender 150 pet mice, the shelter was ready to take them in. But the problem soon became much more mouse-ive when he clarified that he had 150 tubs full of mice to surrender, not 150 individual rodents. The overwhelmed mouse owner initially brought 73 mice last Monday, the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said in a Thursday news release. The shelter said they expect the number of mice to grow to nearly 1,000. These are pet mice, or "fancy mice," the shelter confirmed in the release.

The U.S. on Saturday reported its first case of a more aggressive strain of mpox: an individual in California who had recently traveled from Eastern Africa. It is classified into two distinct groups: the more aggressive strain, clade I, and a somewhat milder strain, clade II. The person diagnosed with clade I mpox had recently traveled from Eastern Africa, where an mpox outbreak is ongoing. New York CNN —McDonald’s is spending $100 million on marketing and to help franchises most heavily affected by a recent E. coli outbreak that has sickened more than 100 people and damaged sales. In a memo sent to employees and obtained by CNN, McDonald’s is spending $35 million on marketing, which includes a value deal focused on its chicken nuggets, plus $65 million directed toward franchisees that have lost business in states where the outbreak happened. Visits and sales took a nosedive in October after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said that fresh slivered onions served on the Quarter Pounders were the likely source of an E. coli outbreak. More than 100 people got sick across 14 states and several lawsuits have been filed against the chain. McDonald’s has said recent tests showed no E. coli in its food, and in the memo noted its Quarter Pounder burgers topped with slivered onions are now back on menus nationwide.
