Patrick T. Fallon | AFP | Getty ImagesUber announced Friday it is expanding its partnership with Alphabet's Waymo to offer robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas, and Atlanta beginning in early 2025. Uber riders in those cities can be matched with a driverless Waymo car for some trips, according to the companies. A Waymo spokesperson said it had no plans to partner with Uber in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The expansion into Austin and Atlanta won't include Uber Eats at first, according to the Waymo spokesperson, but they're exploring that possibility for the future. Some analysts were more hopeful for a potential Uber and Waymo expansion into San Francisco.

It marks the third series of redundancies in Microsoft's video game unit since the company's blockbuster acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the publisher behind the Call of Duty franchise, for $69 billion in cash. In a memo obtained by CNBC, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, told employees that the firm had taken this "difficult" decision to align its post-acquisition team structure and "organize our business for long term success." Nationwide, active listings in August were up 36% compared with the same month last year, according to a new report from Realtor.com. "The widely anticipated Fed rate cut has already ushered in lower mortgage rates, but it seems that some buyers and sellers are waiting for additional declines." Regionally, active listings rose 46% in the South, 35.7% in the West, 23.8% in the Midwest and 15.1% in the Northeast. More supply and longer selling times are finally translating into lower prices. Part of that is due to the mix of homes on the market, as more smaller homes are being listed.

And now it wants Microsoft and the cybersecurity firm that caused the problem to compensate it for at least some of its losses. Delta has hired high-profile attorney David Boies’ law firm to seek damages from cyber security firm CrowdStrike and Microsoft for the massive service issues it suffered last week following a badly flawed software update caused problems in a key computer program. The hiring of the firm of Boies Schiller Flexner, first reported by CNBC, was confirmed to CNN by a person familiar with the decision. Delta’s costs could total between $325 million to $475 million, according to a note published Tuesday by Savanthi Syth, airline analyst for Raymond James. Opinion | Toxic Families: Is Breaking Away the Answer?

The purpose of therapy is to understand and resolve the many ways the parent relationship affected someone — and to understand the complicated person the parent is and why they may have acted in a way that created such pain. Part of healthy maturity and resilience is to be able to manage complicated relationships and not see people as either good or bad, but some mix. So much is embedded in the unconscious that without looking at oneself, rather than just blaming the other person, the child is more likely to repeat unhealthy patterns going forward. To the Editor:Encouraging family cutoffs, as described in this article, has been practiced by some therapists for a long time, even though it’s getting more attention now. It reflects a growing culture of hyper-individualism in which family bonds become disposable when they involve personal pain.

On Friday, the cybersecurity firm experienced a major disruption following an issue with a software update. CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity vendor that develops software to help companies detect and block hacks. In the case of Friday's outage, machines running Microsoft's Windows operating system crashed due to a fault in the way a software update issued by CrowdStrike interacted with Windows. I am far from the only young conservative whose interest in politics was sparked by the issue of abortion. Along the way, many of us found ourselves in the Republican Party, often picking up other conservative causes along the way — low taxes, limited government, strong defense, border security. While traditional social conservatives and the Republican Party might be allies on some key issues, it looks like it is no longer just one political party that wants us to shelve our convictions in the name of political expediency. A secularizing America, plus the shifting composition of the Republican Party, means many G.O.P. Many young conservatives, in particular, seem more enthusiastic about owning the libs than strengthening the family.

As she struggled through her sophomore year in college, Zhenzhen spent hours in therapy, but it hadn’t addressed the central strain in her life: her parents. When she pushed back, her father screamed, she said, and her mother wept. The pressure made it hard to function, and Zhenzhen fended off thoughts of suicide. Mr. Teahan’s videos introduced her to a new idea — that to heal from childhood trauma, it may be necessary to “go no contact” from abusive parents. Around half of Mr. Teahan’s clients restrict or sever ties with their families, which he describes as “brutally hard” but, when it is appropriate, deeply rewarding.

John Fitzpatrick, a hotelier who owns two four-star hotels in Midtown Manhattan, has had to troubleshoot a number of issues during his career. Guests wouldn’t stop stealing his hand towels, emblazoned with an “F” for Fitzpatrick Hotel Group, so he removed the lettering, and the pilfering stopped. During the height of the pandemic, Mr. Fitzpatrick took away the magazines he normally provided in his hotel rooms so guests wouldn’t worry about strangers having touched what they were reading. Now, Mr. Fitzpatrick and his team are brainstorming ideas for how to deal with a new problem: replacing the small plastic toiletry bottles that will be banned in larger hotels throughout New York State beginning Jan. 1, 2025. “In this day and age, we have to watch our carbon footprint, and we have to stop using plastics and all sorts of stuff as best we can,” Mr. Fitzpatrick said.

A string of whistleblowers this year has raised allegations about Boeing factory lapses, including an official federal complaint from a current employee that Boeing hid potentially defective parts from Federal Aviation Administration inspectors, and that some of those parts likely ended up in planes.
