WASHINGTON — Americans are poised to elect a new Congress, with control of both chambers at stake as every seat in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate is up before voters on Election Day. Republicans favored to win the SenateIn the Senate, Democrats currently have a 51-49 edge, but Republicans are favored to capture the majority. They’re all but guaranteed to win an open seat in ruby-red West Virginia, with Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Manchin retiring. If Harris wins, Republicans will need one more seat in addition to West Virginia to capture the Senate. In New York, Republicans are defending four seats they flipped in 2022, propelling them to win the House majority.

Google's Workspace leader Aparna Pappu is stepping down, per an internal memo. "I'm ready for the next opportunity at Google and stepping down from my current role as GM of Workspace," Pappu told staff last week in a memo viewed by Business Insider. Pappu said she would remain in an advisory position for Workspace before transitioning to a new role within Google. Dischler moved to a new role as Google's president of cloud applications earlier this year after 15 years working on Google's ads. Intel shares rose 9% in extended trading on Thursday after the chipmaker reported better-than-expected earnings and issued quarterly guidance that topped estimates. Intel called for fiscal third-quarter adjusted earnings of 12 cents per share and revenue between $13.3 billion and $14.3 billion. Analysts had expected 8 cents in adjusted earnings per share and $13.66 billion in revenue. During the quarter, Intel announced the launch of Xeon 6 server processors and Gaudi artificial intelligence accelerators. As of Thursday's close, Intel shares were down about 57% in 2024, while the S&P 500 index had gained 20%.

CNN —Inflation has slowed further and is just a hair’s breadth from the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, which is the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, showed prices rose 2.1% for the year ended in September, a slowdown from 2.3% in August, according to Commerce Department data released Thursday. The annual increase, which marks a fresh three-and-a-half-year low, fell right in line with what economists were expecting, according to FactSet consensus estimates. However, falling gas prices helped to keep the lid on any gains. Many states are seeing gas prices below $3 a gallon, a trend that’s expected to continue in the coming weeks as global supply eclipses demand.
