CNN —In the Australian city Geelong, just south of Melbourne, thousands are lining up for the rare chance to see – and smell – an unusual plant. It’s the so-called “corpse flower,” or Amorphophallus Titanum (often shortened to Titan Arum), named after the putrid stench it releases when it blooms to attract pollinators like beetles and flies. This plant was only gifted to Geelong Botanic Garden in 2021 from the State Herbarium in Adelaide, South Australia, and for years horticulturalists have been watching and waiting for signs of a nascent bud. So far, visitors have described the smell as similar to a dead mouse or a stinky pond, the city website said. The plant can live over 30 to 40 years – meaning it only blooms a handful of times in its entire lifetime.

Firefighters from coast to coast are battling wildfires even as the country begins to prepare for the holiday season, with fires in New Jersey covering thousands of acres in tinderbox conditions created by a historic drought. It's inevitable that this fire is going to continue to burn up until it reaches our control line," New Jersey Forest Fire Service Chief Bill Donnelly said at a news conference Sunday. I do my research, set realistic goals, and choose hikes that are firmly within my son's abilities. I try to avoid a hike we can't reasonably complete. Amanda AdlerAlthough this may seem like a no-brainer, knowing what we're getting into is the key to our success. Now I take the time to fully research the hiking conditions, and I'll watch full POV YouTube videos to be sure I have the lay of the land before committing to a trek. I also plan for plenty of extra time — well beyond what's recommended for the hike — so my son can rest as needed without feeling rushed.

Instead, they’re turning to the internet for lower-cost options, whether a pop-up foldable house kit, a tiny home or a traditional mobile home. More than 100 years ago, American retailer Sears, Roebuck and Co began selling kit homes from its catalog, with some for under $1,000. Apartment life is the norm where we live — most of our friends who have kids also live in apartments. However, since, by default, apartment life makes you more minimalist in terms of anything from furniture to toys, this certainly was helpful in regards to having far fewer boxes to pack. Apartment life is something that I feel contributes to our sense of community.
