October 12 - PHILADELPHIA -- A historic power display has the Philadelphia Phillies on the brink of a return to the National League Championship Series. Trea Turner and Brandon Marsh also homered and Aaron Nola (2-0) struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings as the Phillies captured Game 3 for a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. They beat the Braves in the NLDS in four games last year, going 2-0 against them in Philadelphia, en route to a World Series trip. Arcia had mocked him during the Braves' celebration after Game 2 ended, which got back to Harper in the Philadelphia clubhouse. An offensive juggernaut all year, the Braves have been held to seven runs and two home runs over three games.

The most valuable of all the Phillies, Harper insisted he was fine. Harper hit two homers in Game 3 and stared down Arcia each time as he trotted around second base. After Game 4, the Phillies had their fun, spraying Harper with beer and gleefully yelling, “Attaboy, Harper! A night after he hit two homers in Game 3, Castellanos became the first Phillies slugger, heck, any slugger in baseball history, to drill multiple homers in consecutive playoff games. Castellanos continued to wave his arms toward the crowd as he headed to right field in the seventh with the Phillies up 3-1.

October 11 - PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Phillies were in control for the first 14 innings of their National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves. The final four innings of Game 2 were so calamitous for the Phillies that the series' momentum swung entirely to Atlanta. "As I've said many times, this is a tough team, resilient team," Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday. "I mean, he's as good as there is in the game," Braves manager Brian Snitker said of Riley. That includes a 2-0 mark against the Braves in last year's NLDS en route to a World Series berth.

But if you are a believer in momentum heading into Game 3 Wednesday, then the Braves just might be the team to beat. The Phillies said all the right things in the clubhouse after Game 2. Thomson and Game 3 starter Aaron Nola said vibes were good in Philly, especially with a needed day off to regroup. Nola gave up five hits, walked two and struck out six in six-plus innings against the Braves in a Game 3 NLDS win last season. So we just got to take it game by game.

Travis d’Arnaud and Riley hit two-run homers as the Braves, who were held without a hit into the sixth inning, rallied from a four-run deficit to stun the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 Monday night, evening the NL Division Series at one win apiece. But Riley alertly backed up the play and zipped a throw to first that completed the double play. Unbelievable.”So did Riley, backing up on a play that he never could've expected to be involved in. Wheeler fanned the side in each of the first two innings, with the Braves making contact on just 12 of 26 strikes. (AP) — As Nebraska's new law restricting gender-affirming care for minors goes into effect this weekend, families with transgender children and the doctors who treat them are steeling themselves for change. A key aspect of the law is a set of treatment guidelines that has yet to be created. Minors who already receive puberty blockers or hormones are allowed to continue the treatment, but new patients who are minors are largely banned from starting. At the time, Nebraska lawmakers were locked in a contentious battle over the proposed transgender health care ban, which touched off an epic filibuster that slowed the session to a crawl. At least 22 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and most of those states face lawsuits.

CNN —A Nicaraguan national who died last week in federal immigration custody had spent more than one year in detention. Despite having been recommended for release more than seven months ago, he continued to be held in immigration custody, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. In November 2022, an ICE panel recommended Rocha-Cuadra be released from custody, but officials at the facility declined to release him, a statement from the SPLC said. In a written statement to the press, Rocha-Cuadra’s brother joined a chorus of immigration rights advocates calling for the ICE facility to be investigated. Rocha-Cuadra had been in immigration custody after crossing the border illegally near Andrade, California, on April 17, 2022, according to a statement from ICE earlier this week.
