ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Real estate data firm CoStar Group is moving its headquarters from Washington, D.C., to northern Virginia, a move that will bring roughly 650 jobs to the state. The relocation is expected to result in 500 jobs moving from D.C., plus the creation of 150 new jobs. The move comes as the Legislature is considering a $2 billion deal to relocate the NBA's Washington Wizards and NHL's Washington Capitals from their home in downtown to Washington to northern Virginia. Arlington County has successfully recruited numerous corporate headquarters in recent years, most famously landing the second Amazon headquarters in 2018. JBG Smith, the real estate company selling the office tower to CoStar, declined comment Wednesday.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been suspended five games for cross-checking Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig in the final seconds of the teams' game over the weekend. The NHL's department of player safety announced the suspension Tuesday after a virtual hearing with Rielly and team and union representatives. Rielly took exception to Greig firing a slap shot into an empty net with 5.1 seconds left Saturday night to make it 5-3 Senators. He cross-checked Greig in the head and left shoulder but did not injure the 21-year-old playing his first full professional season. “He’s been on fire, obviously an incredible season,” Leafs forward William Nylander told reporters after practice Monday.

Now, if a league or network isn't doing something to appeal to younger fans, they are behind the times. Nickelodeon will air its fifth NFL game on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Networks and leagues also continue to experiment with social media and creating more viral highlights to keep younger fans interested. “There’s just so many more tools now at our disposal to address the complex consumption habits of young fans. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis called his new home the Death Star in 2020 — and the name stuck. The futuristic stadium takes center stage on Feb. 11 when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet in the first-ever Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Last year's Super Bowl host, the Arizona Cardinals' stadium, uses a similar transfer system. Players slipped on that grass in the Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles. The NHL isn't the only one who uses the All-Star Game as a lab to test different things that could find its way into the game in the future. This weekend's events in Toronto are also a chance for ESPN and Sportsnet to experiment with coverage ideas that could be implemented down the line during the regular season and Stanley Cup playoffs. The biggest change the league and ESPN implemented is the retooled skills competition on Friday night. The skills competition will be broadcast on ESPN, and Saturday afternoon's All-Star Game will be on ABC. The network and NHL are hoping ratings for the All-Star Game continue to rebound.

A woman has alleged that New York Knicks owner James Dolan sexually assaulted her a decade ago and then set her up to be molested by now-imprisoned film producer Harvey Weinstein, according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles. When the tour traveled to Los Angeles, Dolan flew Croft there even though almost no tour members signed up for massage appointments, the lawsuit states. When she told Dolan of the alleged attack, he neither seemed surprised nor offered to help her report the assault to police, she alleges. Croft alleges that Dolan knew about Weinstein's misconduct toward women and told her "we all know" that Weinstein "has problems." Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence for a rape and sexual assault conviction in New York that is under appeal.

In its third-quarter earnings report on Thursday, Amazon reported an operating margin of 7.8%, the highest since it reached a record of 8.2% in the first quarter of 2021. League backtracks on controversial Pride tape ban

Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports Acquire Licensing RightsOct 24 (Reuters) - The National Hockey League (NHL) has reversed its ban on players supporting social causes on their equipment, including the use of rainbow-coloured Pride tape on their sticks. The NHL had instituted the ban via a league-wide memo sent to its 32 teams ahead of the 2023-24 regular season, drawing criticism from players, fans and a number of prominent organizations. "After consultation with the NHL Players' Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, players will now have the option to voluntarily represent social causes with their stick tape throughout the season," the NHL said in a statement on Tuesday. The decision by the NHL comes three days after Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott became the first player to defy the ban with colourful tape wrapped around the shaft of his stick during his team's home opener. BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — It’s a frequent — and most often frantic — high-pitched yell when kids playing street hockey in North America know their game is about to be interrupted. While ice hockey in Australia is definitely non-traditional, it's been around for a while, and has a profile. Ice hockey has a surprising 120-year history in Australia. Organized hockey games featuring more North American rules started when ice rinks opened up a few years later in 1906 in Melbourne and Sydney. The first Australian-born NHL player — Jordan Spence — made his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season with the Kings.

Amazon will report second-quarter earnings after the market close on Thursday. In the first quarter, AWS sales increased roughly 16%, the slowest growth since 2015, when Amazon began breaking out cloud revenue. AWS rivals Microsoft and Alphabet last week reported solid results in their cloud businesses, beating analysts' revenue expectations. Last week, Amazon hosted an AWS Summit, where the company announced updates related to generative AI, including a service that uses the technology to transcribe and summarize doctors' patient visits. Also during the quarter, Amazon hosted its annual Prime Day discount bonanza, which it touted as its "biggest ever."
