Black men have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates, with turnout typically lagging that of Black women but consistent nonetheless. Even a relatively small drop in support from Black men for Harris could be significant given the razor-thin margins in battleground states. “Black men prioritize being the primary breadwinners of the household and care about real wages and permanent jobs. The Harris campaign also plans to ramp up its programming specifically designed to engage Black men. This week, it is set to partner with Black male celebrities, influencers and activists to hold “Black Men Huddle Up” events in battleground states, NFL and NCAA watch parties that will double as an avenue for Black men to discuss the stakes of the election.

At midnight, as the calendar switched to July 1 and two of the country’s richest athletic departments joined its most dominant league, college football had officially entered its super-conference era. Unbeaten but somewhat unremarkable this season, Oregon is meanwhile trying to return to the College Football Playoff for the first time in a decade. However, Ohio State versus Oregon in a game that counts not as a non-conference game, or a Rose Bowl matchup on New Year’s Day, but in the Big Ten standings? Their stated aim is to promote more matchups more often between otherwise separated blue-blood programs — games just like Oregon vs. Ohio State. The summit was a reminder that the remaking of college football hasn’t ended.

A fourth university has forfeited its women’s volleyball match against San José State University following controversy over the gender identity of one of the team’s players. The Republican governors of both Utah and Idaho publicly supported decisions by Southern Utah University, Utah State University and Boise State University to cancel their matches against SJSU. CNN has reached out to Pierce, the Raiders and ASU for comment. Pierce “consistently denied planning or arranging any portion of the visits, providing recruiting inducements, or participating in the out-of-state contacts and evaluations,” according to a NCAA press release. In the 67-page report, the NCAA provided what it described as multiple examples of the former Super Bowl Champion knowingly and repeatedly conducting forbidden recruiting violations. UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka quit his undefeated team on Tuesday, claiming undisclosed "commitments" to him weren't fulfilled in what could be first midseason pay dispute in college football history. Sluka enrolled at UNLV this year after four solid seasons at Holy Cross, which competes at the secondary level of college football. By quitting UNLV (3-0) before playing in his fourth game, Sluka preserves that year of eligibility and could play elsewhere in 2025. "I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season," Sluka wrote on Instagram Tuesday. The University of Tennessee is raising its season ticket prices by 10% across all its sports to prepare for athletes to start to get a cut of the school's sports revenue, according to an email sent to football season ticket holders on Tuesday. Tennessee is calling its hike a "talent fee," and said it "will help fund the proposed revenue share for our student-athletes," according to the email. Athletic departments have been gearing up for revenue sharing after a proposed settlement involving three cases the NCAA is named in. "As the collegiate model changes, we have to remain flexible," Tennessee Athletic Director Danny White said in a video included in the email. For the past year, student-athletes have been faced with an unsettling question: How much are their lives about to change? Seemingly overnight, the 109-year-old conference of a dozen schools, with decades of rivalries, became a conference of only two. “Why add even more stress?”Shannon Cunningham, a former member of the Arizona State University softball team, said the conference change shattered her dream of playing in the Pac-12. Disney's networks went dark on Sept. 1 after the two sides could not agree to terms on fees and bundle structures. DirecTV called Disney anti-consumer, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro called the responses DirecTV made to Disney's package offers "basically hypotheticals." The amount of customers DirecTV lost during the dispute was not "immaterial," said DirecTV Chief Marketing Officer Vince Torres at Goldman Sachs' Communacopia & Technology Conference on Thursday. DirecTV offered its customers a $30 credit, financed by stopping payments to Disney as soon as the blackout began, Torres said. Reuters —The proposed $2.78 billion settlement of the House v. NCAA antitrust case is on hold after U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken expressed reservations about the terms on Thursday in Oakland, California. Wilken stated her concern about provisions of the deal that could affect name, image and likeness (NIL) payments to student-athletes. She also voiced concern that future college athletes might be restricted by the pending revenue agreement, which will last 10 years. Currently, boosters can provide NIL payments to athletes that essentially serve as salaries. If they want to face that, it’s a decision they have to make.”The settlement would pay billions of dollars to current and former NCAA athletes.

"I'm really passionate about changing the support around the sport," Richard told CNBC in an interview after the Olympics ended. That content hopefully is not only driving more eyeballs to the men's gymnastics, but participants as well. Men's gymnastics consistently lags in popularity behind women's at the collegiate level, where meets are regularly televised, and at the international level. There are only 12 Division I NCAA Men's Gymnastics programs, and more are at risk of cuts.
