This prompted us to investigate the group further, which revealed that various stocks are sporting constructive technical formations. Restaurant stocks charts showing strength McDonalds (MCD) has had a wild ride over the last 10 months and now sits at the same price level that it was trading at last April — eleven months ago. MCD isn't the only restaurant stock that's sporting an attractive technical pattern. On the weekly chart, Restaurant Brands International (QSR) looks very similar to MCD, having formed its own inverse-head-and-shoulders formation over the last year. While this is no indication of what could happen now to MCD, YUM and QSR, it shows how breaking through multi-year resistance can attract momentum.

When there’s a global crisis, wealthy countries tend to find money. That was the case in the United States when big banks were bailed out to soften a global financial crisis. But the climate crisis? This weekend, Vice President Kamala Harris visited the United Nations climate summit in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and promised $3 billion for the Green Climate Fund, which benefits poorer nations. One of the big tests facing this summit, known as COP28, is whether it will fare any better than earlier climate talks at shoring up anything close to the money that’s needed.

Investors looking for artificial intelligence beneficiaries outside the megacap tech companies can search in a less buzzy part of markets — old economy stocks. "And that's our investing theme: Old economy companies that are embracing the digital revolution and the suppliers of the digital, you know, generative AI, cloud and cybersecurity tools," Tengler added. While megacap tech stocks have outperformed this year, helped by a surge of AI enthusiasm, the broader market has been left behind. But searching for more traditional companies embracing digitization could help investors identify less apparent beneficiaries of the AI boom, she said. "What we really like are the companies that are embracing digitization in their business, and improving margins," said Tengler, who holds oversized positions in the consumer discretionary, industrials and technology sectors of the market.
