AdvertisementBill Nighy's career surged after starring in the 2003 film "Love Actually." Acclaimed actor Bill Nighy says that his moderately successful career blew up — in a good way — after he starred in the 2003 Christmas film "Love Actually." Nighy starred in the Richard Curtis film as Billy Mack, a legendary rock and roll artist trying to get a No. "Love Actually" was a smash hit, and though Nighy was over 30 years into his acting career, the film revitalized it. And while the success of "Love Actually" changed his working prospects, Nighy says that it hasn't drastically disrupted his day-to-day life.

I’m not a huge fan of musicals, nor of action movies. I’m a cultural omnivore, personally and professionally, so I knew I would eventually see these movies. But I would be seeing them as a sociologist, a curious outsider rather than the ideal audience member. I wasn’t going to be mouthing every word to “Defying Gravity” or comparing Lucius’s performance in the arena to that of his father. It’s the reward for a life discerningly lived — you know who you are.

An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in central Beirut killed at least 11 people on Saturday, the Lebanese Health Ministry said, part of an intensifying Israeli military campaign that appears aimed at pressuring Hezbollah into a cease-fire deal. The strike was an attempt to assassinate a top Hezbollah military commander, Mohammad Haidar, according to three Israeli defense officials who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive military operations. Hezbollah officials on Saturday afternoon said that none of the group’s leaders were at the site of the airstrike, and later in the day, one of the Israeli officials said Mr. Haidar was not killed. The strike came just after 4 a.m., jolting Beirut residents awake with thundering explosions that left much of the city enveloped in acrid smoke. It was the third strike this week in central Beirut, an area that had largely been spared since the war between Hezbollah and Israel escalated.

McBride, whom Mace has repeatedly misgendered, said in a statement that she would follow the new bathroom rules as outlined by Johnson, even if she disagrees with them.
